England start their campaign tonight against Uruguay. Good to see a few blues in the squad.

More under twenties in the squad than any other team - even Villa only has two - Im surprised SSN isn't doing a piece about us as saviours of the English game...

Our first game is just about to kick off vs Uruguay and we've got 5 lads in the starting XI! It's on Eurosport for anyone who fancies putting it on, and by all accounts it's going to be a tough game against a quality side. Hope our boys can do themselves proud.

So England lost the opener. Nice goal.
England Youth
2007 - didnt qualify
2005 - didnt qualify
2003 - last in group
2001 - didnt qualify
1999 - last in group
1997 - 2nd round exit
Whatever happens, this current team should break the recent records.
Anyway, English Youth teams never seem to impress at that level. Discuss.

I'd hazard a guess that the main reason is that the vast majority of the squad have never played first-team senior football. Compare that to African nations, where people are often playing far above their own level, who have a lot more success at this level in comparison to the senior teams. Even our own Alex Nimeley has African Champions' League experience, I think!

So are they any good or just the best of a bunch of shite youngsters? Don't want to be negative, but judging by England youth teams past posted by Abu Dhabi it's not worth getting excited about anything really is it? I know Trippier is supposed to be good, Nimely too and Clayton but that's more to do with him being a pal of some posters on here I think?

Clayton looks very handy, nice touches and good work in and around the left channel. Choochoo-Nimely had some very good runs into space, but he was being pushed wide more than not and needs to be stronger with his runs off the ball. Trippier continues a long line of right backs at city who can't cross and the standout for me was Ben Mee who looked to be the general of the defence and made only one mistake all game that wasn't punished. The late winner was some what spectacular and will be a kick in the teeth to the lads but on balance was probably the right result.
