We are actually happy to be playing the big teams and Man City are obviously a massive side now - a force in football. We want to prove we can play well against these big sides and that's what keeps us going."

Perhaps unsurprising for a man with a penchant for renting accomodation and promptly smashing it up, according to The Sun this morning Carlos Tevez has taken a sledgehammer to his newly accquired executive boxes at the City of Manchester Stadium (a ground barely seven years old), knocking a wall through to combine the two:

The “super box” - which will cost him £70,000 a season - is big enough to accommodate 20 pals. It is decked out with fridges, tellies and other luxury gizmos

Ignoring the fact it’s 2009 and The Sun still consider televisions and refrigerators ‘luxury gizmos’, we reckon Tevez will already have a few ideas of what do with the extended space - top of the list being a bigger venue for he and bessie mate Patrice Evra to celebrate Park Ji Sung’s birthday next year.

It's not particularly bad value all things considered. Works out at £93 per person per match. Not really all that expensive considering the normal costs of premium seats, what he's getting and his earning power.

I wonder if he's able to write it off for tax purposes.

they told us about this on the stadium tour i took after the Arsenal match. there was a suggestion that his boxes were part of his contract negotiations, but it was inferred but not really declared that it was so. The one thing that is true from the Stadium tour, and confirmed by conversations with folks like LythamBlue...is that literally EVERYTHING from top to bottom at City is undergoing a facelift. Interiors, services, vendors, etc. When something is seen as not completely top-shelf, then someone will be there to be certain that we go out and get that top-shelf service or material. I was impressed with the boxes. They certainly rivaled anything i've seen at NFL stadiums or NBA arenas here in the US. Dunno how they compare to higher-end football stadiums in Europe, but i felt they looked very nice without being cheezy or gaudy.

cheers

I semi-recall hearing that Micah had a box a while back. For the kind of sums involved, I think it's a good idea.
