Training Thursday 8/10

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Thu Oct 08, 2009 11:51 am

A good full session today with the 5 1st team guys working with the reserves. warm up routines followed be a 5 a side game without keepers and needing a 1 touch finish to score. One of the games included all our under 20 lads back from Egypt ( great experience according to Glyn H). The final part was 11 a side with the key players all mixed up in the teamsJohnno and Ireland played on opposite sides and Vinnie played centre back.

Best goal scored in this game was by RSC who , after 2 quick one twos broke through to round the keeper and slot in left footed. Real quality. Not far behind was a finish by Alex Nimely whose first touch was superb ,fter a great break and cross by Trippier, and the finish excellent. A key part of the work being done in this game was to get the players to switch the play quickly once space got blocked on one side. Too often the ball gets moved too slowly and good defences regroup/reposition if the passing isnt slick.

For Vinnie and Johnno another step towards fitness and more needed. Many of the reserves stayed back for some more " play" whilst the keeprs worked on their kicking and control of backpasses. Garrido stayed to provide crosses for Vinnie and RSC to work on their finishing , either headers or chest and volleys.

Cheers Doug

Vinnie looking up for it then?

And I gather that reports of RSCs injury has been 'greatly exaggerated'

I am sure Vinnie is up for it but I wouldn't say he is ready yet. RSC's injury wasn't major as we know but had it's effect in the game for a while.
The word re Toure was that he will be fine .

I've noticed from many of your reports that Garrido often stays behind and helps other lads by doing crosses or freekicks. He may not be good enough for the first team but what a good pro he is to stay behind so often.

Doug....the question I need to ask is

What's the word on Lewis? Is he back at school? Or has he picked up a knock round the ear from his mum?

Unfortunately for Lewis he is back at school.Probably wondering whether he could skip a lesson to get out to watch. Shame he had a day off last week but it conincided with a no training day.

Garrido is very good in training and yes he does seem to always stay back for extras. He is perfect as well for crossing for the finishers as he is very good at crossing.

I forgot to mention Robinho ( again) who was working inside in the gym and is expected to get outside next week. He is doing a lot of running in one of those machines which doesnt pound the knees but works the rest of the legs ( does that sound right?)

Any chance there might be a closed doors friendly somewhere during the international break to give Johno, RSC and maybe Vinnie some match practise?

Cheers mate. Keep it up.

OK here's a proper question for you related to the Garrido one

I know when I've watched with you last season, Elano and Garrido were the ones practising set pieces..... Nowadays one of them is in Turkey and the other doesn't feature.

So who practises dead ball routines?? Barry?

When there is a set piece in a match practice, especially corners, Barry will often take it but when it comes to edge of the box free kicks it is usually Bellamy and Petrov. They did just before the WHU game and we all know what happened in that game.

I think it's a bit more sophisticated than that but I've no idea what it's called.

I think it might be an anti gravity treadmill but probably has an official name. I did see it when I went in but my memory fails me.

As for who controlled the game I wouldnt actually say anybody was in full control but Ireland was nearest.
