Without doubt - Colin Bell. He'd rip apart the opposition with our style of play at the moment.

Dean Windass.
Can't help but feel we missed out on never signing him.

Pity he's a nob.

Have to agreed on both counts, incredibly talented player but what a wanker. But i'd have a 86 maradona in my team.

Absolutely no doubt about it, both counts.

In context of the thread, he is the man who would have had most influence. The effect he had on Napoli was unbelieveable. Many of the other suggestions are either nostalgia-based or players who were brilliant on one day, not on the next. Beckenbaur would be a good second.

Has to be Colin Bell.

Had the pleasure of seeing highlights of 2 City classic games last night. Chelsea away in the cup 3 nil to City with Colin scoring 2 and then Stoke at home with him scoring 1 in a 3 .2 win. Great to watch.

I saw a bit of the Stoke highlights. Reminded me of how bad the defence became in the years before Dave Watson signed, what a great player Rodney Marsh was/could be & what terrible condition Lee got into over time before he left, yet somehow he could still sprint around the pitch!

The whole club let it'self down in that period imo, wallowing in their earlier success. Players, managers & that evil clown Swales made a right mess of it. Lee wobbling around with his fat legs bulging out of his shorts was like a picture of what the club became under Swales. Still played good football to watch though.

Zidane. I used to watch Real just to see him he play.

Honurable mentions to Schmeichel in his prime, Maldine, Zola, and the one and only Colin Bell.

Without a doubt it would be Bell.

From more recent times and non-City, Bergkamp.

Would've been my choice if I was going for a forward but he'd get pissed off sitting on the bench while Bellamy plays better than him.

Ex city - Ali B in his prime or MVF.

Overall

R Carlos or Cafu we've never had a decent fullback who can bomb on for 90 minutes and score cracking goals.

I can't believe that Pele's only had one shout - just amazing, and seemed to think of something different every time he played.

Neither of who could defend for toffee even in their prime. Neither of them would've done any good in England.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
