Sibierski hangs up boots
Frenchman rejected offers to keep playing

Former Newcastle and Manchester City star Antoine Sibierski has decided to hang up his boots.

Frenchman Sibierski has decided to retire after 17 years in the game.

The 35-year-old was released by Wigan at the end of last season and despite receiving offers from a number of other clubs worldwide he has decided to quit playing.

"It is the end for me," Sibierski told skysports.com. "I have chosen to stop, but I was prepared to do that.

"I had offers from France, Belgium, Australia even in England but I decided to listen to my family.

"I thought about moving to France seriously, but my wife and my kids have said no way back so I have listened to them.

"I am physically ready to have at least two more seasons, but since last year in my head it was over for me.

"I am looking forward to other things now, but I will still be in football."

I thought he'd retired about 10 years ago.

Absolutely gutted. I hope we can have a minutes silence before kick off today. On the plus side, we now get more time with Antoine at home. He will be missed out on the football field though.

Any chance of having a permanent tribute on this site for the man, now his playing days are over?

The wife is boss, its not a question of just 'listening' to her!

Steve is going to be gutted.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

sibi could have come in to cover at centre half yesterday such was his versatility. perhaps we could tempt him before someone else gets wind of this and snaps him up?

anyways, a very sad loss.

I think he scored on his debut?

Like so many before him I thought we were onto a good one and that him playing behind anelka would catapult us into the big time.

It was the only time I was ever wrong.
Actually, he wasn't deployed there again so maybe I wasn't wrong.... excellent, I'm still always right.

Phew, that was close.

Oh yeah - thanks Antoine, your head is funny and shaped like a 50p coin, so I don't blame you for the direction the ball went after it hit it.

Peace.
