Barnsley called in the police to investigate disturbances and vandalism allegedly caused by Manchester United supporters during the second half of the Carling Cup tie at Oakwell. Around 6,000 away fans were given the whole of the north stand and it is believed a snack bar was trashed, the contents of a till were stolen and terrified staff were held captive until the stand emptied after the game.

A Barnsley steward who witnessed the aftermath said: "The counter girls must have been frightened for their lives. The United fans were like animals in there."

A Barnsley spokesman said: "The club is going to launch a full investigation as soon as possible after substantial damage was caused in the concourse of the north stand. A complaint has been made to the police and we will be taking a look at CCTV footage of the incident before we can comment further."

Police will begin an investigation today after assessing the damage. There was trouble on the pitch as well, when two supporters ran on to the field as the United goalkeeper Ben Foster was about to take a goal-kick towards the end of the game. Play was held up for several minutes as the stewards dealt with the matter, though it was not clear which team the fans were supporting.

So where were the yorkshire police to sort that out? I remember a few years back when some of our supporters got a bit stroppy with the catering staff at Barnsley they sent in a full cavalry charge through the concourse at half time with horses battering anybody in their path.

Where were police when all this was going on? It's being reported that the women were trapped for 20 minutes in a storeroom ffs! For our pre-season friendly we couldnt even get a pint or even keep the lids on our coke bottles, they must have served the scum fans ale for them to behave like nenderthals.
