It seems the poor man couldn't handle the death of his daughter two years ago.
http://www.blick.ch/sport/fussball/international/bundesliga/robert-enke-ist-tot-133059He appears to have committed suicide by parking his car on a train crossing.
He had every chance of going to WC 2010 (capped 8 times) and played on Sunday for Hannover (196 times).
R.I.P.

Not actually much being said other than the facts I gave. This report seems uncertain, however , teletext here in Zürich confirms it was a suicide.
Edit:
he leaves behind a wife and an adopted baby.

RIP. Must've been hell for him after losing a daughter but how is this fair on his wife and adopted baby?

Dreadful...i certainly empathise with him, having been in a few dark places myself. I just hope his wife and extended family get all the support they require. Rest in peace.

I cannot imagine what he must have gone through, or how bad things must have been for him to feel that this was his only hope.....it is a sad loss for his family and friends as well as German football, which must be in shock at this news.
Although, I personally feel what he did was very selfish, not really thinking of how this would effect his Wife or other young child, this in no way should detract from the sad loss that this is......RIP Robert Enke.

The guy obviously had huge issues, but it's a selfish way to do it. The driver of that train has to live with it (presuming he wasn't killed) and there could have been other casualties on the train.
RIP all the same.

A depressed mind can do funny things to a person i suppose. Shame, no-one is a winner in a suicide. His family, the train driver & the emergency services all suffer after a tragedy like this.

one of these players, who also was highly respected by fans from other clubs, which does not quite often happen with goalkeepers. Especially not that usual mad german type of keepers. He was really different from them

We all know someone who had to go through the very thing, what a selfish thing to do. I feel for his family but he has very little sympathy from me for this.
