There is nothing legally that he can do to stop City gaining sponsors. We can have as many as we want or can get. Platini has no power to block us...or anyone else.

Oh yes he has - and I do not want to go into the European courts / contract laws / employment laws debate again (of which I would know more than most on here unless they are a specialist) - CL is an invitation competition - and therefore all that is required is to set out the terms of the entry to that competition etc - that is why that there has been all sorts of talk from Platini about preventing acceptance to their competition - this is within their rights and whilst an appeal could be made in the courts it would be retrospectively and far too late and likely not to succeed - imagine the Judge: -

"... Oh - so you applied to enter a competition for which the entry rules were clearly set out in 2010 and in accordance with those rules you were non-compliant - and your point is????????" - one thing I can say with professional certainty is that the contractc / competition laws in the EU are totally irrelevant in this respect - so people please get off that theme

Licensing Regulations

These are the current rqts to be given a licence to enter the CL. i think 6 qualifiers failed this year and [strike]a couple of hundred[/strike]edit 110 teams that didn't qualify but registered also failed them.

They will change in 2012, but there is no indication that the changes will include "we want to vet your sponsors". they will include "you must show that you are likely to break even within "n" years", and you must not spend daft money on transfers or wages.

I take on board what you say mate but I cannot see our ownwers setting themselves up for a fall. I think they are far too clever than that.
Whatever terms and conditions are set by UeFA for entry to the CL, I am quite certain that the club will comfortably meet them.
There will be no way that our owners would invest so much money (£100sM) and not ensure that all the criteria is met.
I am confident that we are one step ahead and will remain so.

To deny us, having met all the criteria would open UeFA to massive compensation payments to us and as we ahve seen, they have no bottle for a fight, even when the odds have been in their favour.

That's what I am saying and have been all along. These are not stupid men we have owning us, and there is a reason this is in place NOW. Even if the regulations block us from having third party sponsorship, I am sure there will be a course for having it in place before the regulation was applied. Same reason why we went out and spent so much on players. More than likely any club running a loss will have to curtail transfer spending in order to qualify and right now our transfer spendings are mostly done. I expect that we will finish the team in the next two transfer windows and the establishment of academies are a fast track for getting south american talent playing for us whilst costing nothing.

But the rules have not yet been laid out. If they are next year, with restrictions that are competitively unfair then we still have no right to appeal, like you say. But we could petition the EU in terms of TV revenues that were, potentially, unfairly distributed. If it were provable that the UEFA guidelines and their prior stranglehold over revenue, advertising and moneys payed out were detrimental to clubs wishing to participate in pan-EU competitions after declination of invitation, then there'd be a technically viable case.
