Italian hard man Rino Gattuso is ready to quit AC Milan - and expects to sign for Manchester City in the transfer window.

The 31-year-old midfield ‘enforcer’ is looking to leave Serie A in a bid to get into his country's World Cup squad and has told pals he is lined up for Mark Hughes's top-four contenders.Gattuso speaks English from his time with Glasgow Rangers and his tough-tackling style is suited to the Premier League as he makes his shock attempt to get out of Milan.

The fiery star, who has been with Milan for a decade, is not seeing eye-to-eye with coach Leonardo. He believes he will be allowed out on loan with a view to a full-time move. Gattuso has been struggling with a knee injury for the past year but feels he has fit – despite being rushed back at the end of last season which caused the row inside the San Siro.

City are looking to add to their squad for the second half of the season and have been alerted about Gattuso's availability. Gattuso is known for his fierce commitment and driving style, qualities City have been lacking recent weeks. And the tough little character would also have the added incentive of proving himself to Marcello Lippi and getting his place in the World Cup squad for South Africa next summer.

Gattuso already has a World Cup winners medal - famously celebrated by running round the pitch without his shorts - and two Champions League gongs. But he privately admits that his time is up with Leonardo in charge at Milan and his sights set on the City switch instead. Now it is down to the clubs to sort out figures in the next few weeks. Gatusso would suit us just fine, i wanted him years ago when he left Rangers. He'll fit straight into the premier style of play and will depose De Jong & Kompany as our main enforcer. It should free up Ireland to get forward more as he was doing last season.

Gattuso would be a brilliant addition, but do we really want to deal with that cunt Berlusconi again?

If we were to get Gattuso, then I sure hope Hughes can handle pitbulls or their ilk....as when Italy won the WC, he only strangled their manager Marcello Lippi in celebration of a goal......seems he could be a tad wild :)

Although he has been a great player to have around for the sides he has been at, I am not sure at his age that the speed of the Prem would be good for him, spending 6 years in a walking pace league to then come into the hustle of the 100mph, but would still like to see him in a City shirt, even if it is only to terrorise that lot in the derby game.

RIG,He is only a year older than Bellamy hardly grandad status.
Im sure he would be able to handle the pace,Plus De Jong,Makalele,Vieira Et al are hardly Usain Bolts.

No wonder Tevez is getting confused watching Corrie......even the people in the show are confused, who watches that crap to learn the language???.......might as well watch Charlie Chaplin films for learning the language just as much........get yourself on Mad Pab Zab's course Tev, he has done well enough in a year to learn more of the English language than some people on here...

Dont rate gattuso at all, he has played to long in italy and wont be able to get up to the pace of the game. he does'nt read the game that well and his game is based on big tackles and crashes and with him just coming back from a knee injury we should stay well clear.

we need our midfield enforcer to be able to read the game, slow the opposition, know where and when to drop back and help the defence, move forward and start our attacks and arrive late and unmarked around the box and make something happen.

we have kompany and de jong (both who i rate higher that gattuso at the moment) but if we want to move forward we need someone like essien, YaYa or maybe even Jeremy Toulalan.

Hmmm...not sure about Gattuso...31 years old and he's proper dirty...would end up being sent off more than he's on the pitch!

I really like Gattuso. He is a great player, and would be a great addition to the club. Also I wouldn't mind if we made a bid for Victor Moses from Crystal Palace, he is a great young talent.

Good bollox today chinners.

Good call, there were rumours but how much meat they had to them was unknown that we were interested in him in the summer. Great left sided midfielder as stand in for robbie or long term replacement for Petrov.
