WE CAME TO EASTLANDS FROM MAINE ROAD

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

WE CAME TO EASTLANDS FROM MAINE ROAD

Postby eastlandsblue.co.uk » Thu Nov 19, 2009 5:12 pm

In the light of Mike Ashley flogging off the Newcastle FC 'St James' ground name to SportsDirect, I am concerned that we establish a definate common name that CITY fans accept before the new owners impose their own. Have a look at my site www.eastlandsblue.co.uk

It was called St James' Park since 1892, don't you think they had enough time to accept it as the name?

Really not convinced we will ever hear a Boyzone song being belted out by the faithful at COMS

The current trend for naming new grounds are corporate names like the ‘Stadium of Light’

Eh?

And on the second day, God sponsored Sunderland's ground, having invented light the previous day.

"Emerates" is not the correct spelling either.
Poor effort.

Eastlands = area of East Manchester
Sportcity = Area in Eastlands where Stadium is situated
CoMS = City of Manchester Stadium, the actual ground

Oh, and Boyzone song????
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

he hasn't sold it to Sportsdirect, he's using that name as an example to "demonstrate" to potential sponsors how it goes.
and it is precisely because we haven't got an established name for our ground that it would make sense to sell the rights and raise tens of millions to make us more financially stable and less reliant on a single investor. Although nice if "we don't need the money".
I'm hoping we get a cool sponsor like Virgin Galactic. "Galactic City" has a ring to it.
And no I will not sing your song, sorry :-)

You know what, I couldn't care less what the stadium is called. There are some bloody embarrassing ones out there (Kit Kat anyone) but they can call it what they like if we are playing attractive football and even winning trophies in the future. I actually don't think our management team would allow it to knowingly be an embarrassing name and it is most likely to be associated with Abu Dhabi (as per Alex's suggestion).

Seeing as the powers that be couldn't think of anything better than 'The City of Manchester Stadium at Eastlands' I would suggest the owners are very welcome to come up with a new name to tie in with expansion/rebuilding sponsorship. Cant be any worse.

I have absolutely no emotional ties to the new ground at all so they can call it what they like for all I care

And those songs on that site that is linked are fucking shite

"The Etihad Stadium" sounds great.

Like its been said though, its easier to rename this home to our last, changing Maine Rd would have been heart breaking,.....

Really? Dont remember that. I thought it was drummed up between the council and the club and 'announced'. Then maybe we got a vote a bit like the Common Market one AFTER we'd joined!

Either way it's shite.
