SWP

I know he's a legend for many on here and rightly so for his first stint at the club. He's been in my opinion below average, border like shite for most of this season. After the much improved peformance against Burnley, I thought we'd start seeing the best of the him again. But once again today, he was dire and consistently wasteful. I'm not sure why his game seems to have digressed, but surely it's time for the management to drop him/give him a rest. Thoughts?

He's more frustrating than anything. For every intelligent run/assist etc there is a run into another cul-de-sac/leaving the ball behind. I can't fault his effort though. Slightly off topic - he was absolutely exhausted at the end, couldn't understand why he wasn't taken off at the end.
Oh and he made a mint defensive header as well, not sure how he got as high as that greek giant!

I thought he played very well today until late on when he lost the ball a couple of times in circumstances where we were building something. He works hard and gets a lot of knocks. Maybe on days like todauy he should be giving 70 minutes at 100mph rather than 90 and hanging on at the end

I totally agree he infuriates me losing the ball all the time it's time for Weiss now.

If he hadnt set up the goal he would have had a shocker really. When you strip him down, he has no final ball, no crossing, no height, medium pace, and has become very readable.
I think he has caught Chelsea syndrome, too many stars around him and he isnt the main man anymore, just like when he moved to Chelsea.
Hughes reads the stats and knows what is going on. If SWP is dropping down the charts, its time for Wiess to come in, cut the shit with him being too young or inexperienced, he plays for his country and rips apart other international teams.
If he is good enough he will swim, if not, he'll sink, but either way atleast we'll know.
Come on Les, grow some balls and drop SWP for 1 game atleast.

Didn't think he was too bad today but agree entirely in terms of the bigger picture. Wasteful, still prone to giving away cheap possession and my pet hate - the habit he has of running straight in to people......Arrrrrgh!!!
Not a regular first choice player for a top four team and an alternative needs to be looked at. Love him to bits though and hope he is part of our squad for years to come.

Is SWP being groomed to be the new boo boy?

No. Some Blues are airing their opinion on him.

The guy is going through a rough patch with his form i think we need to back him rather than throw him on the scrap heap and replace him with a kid who aint ready.

Without doubt, SWP is having a dip in form by his own high standards. I think he has had time to try and play through it and maybe now needs to taken out of the firing line.
His final ball has been very poor this season.
I don't know whether Weiss is ready to take on the big boys, but certainly against teams like Hull would seem to be ideal opportunities to ask the question and give him the chance to gain experience.
SWP would be ideal as an impact player until he regains his form. Late in the game, he would run defences ragged.

Fair point which I agree entirely with. Shame folk can't have their say without being accused of being a 'boo boy', though. Have to say, his rough patch is becoming a bit elongated.

Why not give a chance to Weiss?

I don't think that moving SWP to the bench to recover his form should be seen as an attack on SWP.
Blooding youngsters and giving them a chance against the lower placed clubs is merely part of the evolution of a team.
SWP would fully understand the situation, he went through the same process himself.

FFS, I don't think anyone is "throwing him on the scrap heap" as you put it mate. He's been below par/borderline shite for most of the season and I'm glad that it's not just me seeing it. IMO he really needs to be dropped as he's not exactly having the desired effect on our attacking play. Having an affinity to the club doesn't merit a place in the starting line-up when there's players who have potentially more to offer or have could have a bigger impact during games than he's having right now.

I suggested a couple of weeks ago that Weiss deserves a game to see if he can do better. Hull at home again provides an ideal platform for him as he will see lots of the ball in the final third, and should hopefully be able to use the ball more effectively than SWP has.
As for Shaun, no-ones making him the boo boy or sticking him on the scrap heap. The plain truth is a spell out of the team might just reinvigorate him, as he's been generally poor this season. The efforts there as always from him, but it just isn't happening for the guy at the moment which is blindingly obvious. He will be back stronger come xmas time, I have no doubt but its time to have a look at weiss who has earned a game waiting for his chance whilst also showing up well at international level in a team that's qualified for the WC.

I agree he should be given a rest. He had no final ball in the first half that I remember. He did improve when Tevez came on but was notably tired at the end.
Putting him on the bench may give him the encouragement to pick up his game.
I hope he does.

I loved that too, it made me chuckle - SWP as a central defender.

Always makes me laugh when people say "SWP has no end product" or "his final ball is poor" He is far and away our top assister with 8 and i wouldn't be suprised if he sets up the most chances, not to mention his goals and his work rate.
What do you expect from him?

Hes still a great palyer and has alot to offer but he does need some competition for his position and i think Weiss shuld start pressing him for a spot on the pitch now.Competition is healthy and nobody should take there place in the startin 11 for granted. Its bad for our performances and will keep everyone on there toes.
