Kompany

Seems to have slipped under the radar last night

Don't know whether anyone else noticed but I thought he played brilliantly when he came on...broke up some promising Arsenal attacks...looked assured on the ball and generally made his presence known!

He did really well, shored us up when we needed it. It was a very positive move from Hughes(not in the attaacking sense) but to make a move that dictated the game and Kompany was a rock when he came on. After getting a yellow he immediately dove into another tackle and gave me a little heart stop moment, but he really let them know they weren't coming through the middle.

Thought that was a really good substitution, and Vinnie did the part. Maybe we should do that more when we get ahead?

Yes he did very well. Reminded me of his form when he first came to us last season. IMO he is better than NDJ and is much more
productive in the attacking positions /corners also.

Interesting dilemma for the manager, i'm more of an NDJ man but Kompany did excellant last night and was harshly booked imo.

Ha! He basically rugby tackled the Arsenal player! But good for him. "You shall not pass!"

Very interesting indeed especially as Barry also plays in that position. It wont be a big problem when we play with 2 holding
midfielders as in away games (probably the case against Chelsk on Saturday also) but when we play with one only like last night then MH will have a big headache decidng who will start.

chris foy had lost the plot by the time kompany came on last night and was dishing cards out like confetti. Kompany had 1 tackle 1 card and it was clumsy. But song got away with loads and then got a yellow for a red card offence.

Ref totally lost control of the game last night.

He broke up play well enough but fouled so many times in his little cameo. Not a problem in the middle of the park but I don't want him anywhere near the centreback position as that will cost us points.

To be fair VK is probably the best CB in the squad, strongest in the air and at tackling. He came on all fired up to disrupt and did just that. He deserves to play alongside NDJ on sat with SI just ahead joining Ade, with Bellers/Tevez on wings. Robbie and SWP can come on as necessary.

I think VK is perhaps the most underated player in the squad.

I hope he plays against Chelsea, usefull at set plays and will get stuck into Lampard and Essien, might need taking of if he has been booked though, do not want him sent off. A rest for NDJ for me. Vinny can soften up NDJ can finish the jon.

His prefered position for both Hamburg and Belgium is CB. He seems to be the strongest header we have, is very agressive and a good tackler. Also his distribution beats anything that MR, KT, JL or NO can produce, none of those guys could have done the job in midfield he did last season.

I PREFER KOMPANY - NDJ IS TOO ONE DIMENSIONAL......I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS BUT I DONT RATE HIM ABOVE KOMPANY...NDJ IS A CRAB.......SIDEWAYS OR BACKWARDS AND HE,S A RED CARD WAITING TO HAPPEN...MORE SO THAN KOMPANY.

I like NDJ but Kompany is more of a rock at CDM which will free Barry up a bit more - would like barry to return to the role (and form) from earlier this season

Barry is our new Hamann. Can't believe how slow he is.

He does bring a lot to the game through his set piece delivery though, finding Adebayor and Lescott quite a few times this season.

Incorrect, in many interviews he has said his position is in midfield although he is willing to play at centreback.

Lescott is by far our strongest header of the ball, followed by Richards.

He is a good tackler but his distribution isn't good and it has cost us a few goals last year but I will let him off seen as though he was playing with a massive hole in his boot to give his swallon foot injury room to move.

The problem with Kompany is that he rugby tackles all the time. Constantly getting his hands over the shoulder of the strikers or around their waists and tugging at their shirts. He is a freekick or penalty waiting to happen in the box.

I would argue that Ade is a better header than Richards ... but he's a forward, so i guess that's besides the point in this discussion.

The fact we're having these debates about so many international players is amazing. A couple of seasons ago if Dunne got injured it would have been Thatcher/Jordan stepping in to cover.
