As a kid it was always Big Joe Corrigan for me with Dennis Tueart a distant but clear second.

So unlucky to be the third best goalie in the world when the two who were better were also English.

Depends how old you are allowed to be called a kid? Has to be Colin Bell but I like the mention of Dave Wagstaffe , he was quality and I met him on holiday once as we were at the same hotel. On the City stadium tour I was told he was actually told he was sold to fund some floodlights!

Two names I seem to remember most though from my very very early days watching were Joe Hayes and Bill Leivers but I couldnt call them favourites.

For me it just had to be Bert trautmann, the man was immense. I suppose any bloke who breaks his neck and carries on playing has to grab your imagination as a kid.
Good call on Bobby Johnstone too...he was a fucling wizard.

For me it has to be Kinkladze.... not even any contest for me.....

From what I remember seeing of him when I was younger he is IMO the best footballer I've ever seen.

My earliest City memories are of Whitey, although I was only about 5 when he left so they're a bit hazy. All happily brought back through old videos though! Moving on a few years, I idolised Rosler, Quinny and Beagrie in that 90s side and have always wondered how on earth a side as good as ours managed to get fucking relegated- throw in the likes of Curle, Kinky, Phelan, even Lomas and Brown- not saying we should have won the league but proper management and we would have been a fairly comfortable midtable side.

Speaking of Rosler, at one of my first games he missed a penalty only for some knobhead to start mouthing off with Nazi stuff. Pity the rest of the Kippax didn't agree- he got battered. But it's a testament to how popular he was with us that even now UWE! UWE! ROSLER is one of the only songs still belted out regularly at Eastlands.

For the teen years it's definitely Goater, no contest. When I played schoolboy footie I was a striker and was a bit shite but scored loads of goals, and teachers/parents used to always say 'who's your favourite player', they're expecting Ronaldo, Rivaldo, they always looked a bit baffled by my response- THE GOAT!

Exactly this for me too. Loved David White. I used to get my old man to write the City score when they played at night and leave it next to my bed - so obviously once woke up to City 5 - Villa 1 (White 4 goals) and thought I was still dreaming. Awesome.

Then Kinky, as he was simply a genius.

David White.
I was gutted when we swapped him for Rocastle, although Rocky wasn't too bad when we got him. THAT turn he did past 2 players was top.
