Who do you think was...

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Who do you think was...

Postby Blue Blood » Tue Jan 12, 2010 11:02 am

The most important and influential figure (player/staff/management/owner) for Manchester City in the noughties??

I got to thinking about this randomly the other day and after much deep thought i realised that for me it could only be one man....

Emile Mpenza

He came in on a free under Pearce and scored probably the most important goals for us of the decade. I'm certain that without him City would have gone down that season, leading to no buyout from Uncle Thaksin and thus leading to no buyout from the Sheikh and most probably a drop down the divisions again.

So thats my opinion on the person of the noughties.

Who's yours and why.

good pick that, needles got goals v boro and newcastle i think.
john wardle deserves a shout for selling the club to taxin, who then sold it to
the sheikh, i mean dont the red scouse wish they had sold to taxin now.
they would have our owners in charge probably.
so a special mention to ric parry.

John Wardle.

As much shit as he got at some point, truth is he kept us afloat with his own money and put us on course to where we are now even if he couldn't finance the transformation himself. Blue with Clubs best interest always in heart, no doubt.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Sheikh Mansour. He chose us, god knows why, but he has completely changed everything about this club. From constantly being financial strugglers to being possibly the biggest team in the world in the next 20 years.

God........it's great being a blue these days.

Special mention to Wardle for bailing us when Thaksin went tits up.

Thirded. By a country mile. The stick some directed towards him was an absolute disgrace.

City fan, own money put on the line, carried us as far as possible and knew the outer reaches of his capacity to support us.

The fact that he subbed Thaksin cash when we had cashflow issues showed exactly how much he had the club's best interests at heart. He's in my City Hall of Fame

Bernstein IMO.

took us from the doldrums into the limelight, where the players and owners that follwed were able to actually know we existed.

Definitely Wardle. He cocked up for a while by letting Keegan go beserk signing shite but without him I doubt we'd be in the PL now. He saved the club from disaster, without a doubt.

Danny Mills and Thank You Joey.....

On another note, I would have to say that Keegan was the man for me, he got us back into the prem and really cemented our place in the league.... and now look at us!

not Gary Neville for his contributions to our points tally then?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Dickov and Weaver for their antics against Gills.
Keegan for getting us promoted in style and allowing us to watch players like Anelka, Berkovic, Ali B, etc.
Joseph for twating Dabo and getting him out of the club! He was one shite lazy player!
The big man for taking us over.
Robinho for having the balls to join us when a lot of players would have still laughed at coming here and starting it all off.
