My argument is that he plays for the cash and has no particular allegiance to the place where he gets his income, most of whose people are foreigners to him, with language, culture, and other factors making them so. "Mercenary not Mancunian" as I said. I'll give you that skin colour is probably the least significant factor there (less so than his salary compared to the folk who go to watch him play) but, my, how sensitive you still are to any mention of race in England. In actual fact I picked up on the "point of your post"

He plays for us because we bought him, we offered the money that Arsenal wanted for him and so were allowed to talk to him, we then offered him a salary he was happy with and sold something about the club to him as a good idea ( in this case the project of turning the club into a trophy winning force ) so he signed. So pretty much like every single other transfer then, THAT is why he plays for City and what shirt he wears in the above situation has absolutely no implications either way in that respect.

The simple fact is that for some reason you felt that there was some significance in colour as you mentioned it, having lived in a very racially integrated area (Manchester) all my life I don't see that the colour of someone's skin has any relevance at all

Let's be careful not to paint with too big a brush. People are racists, not entire countries. But every one has their share.

With respect mate...and in answer to your question about your reaction...Maybe your 1st instinct should have been a more humane one, rather than a football one.
Maybe you should have seen the person rather than the shirt. Maybe mate you should have seen the suffering and pain of the man, rather than what he was wearing.
Like you, I too was baffled by his choice of top but I understood that in the greater scheme of his security and health, it wasn't that important.
I respect that you were honest enough to publicly put your inner thoughts on here and have been taken to task for it.
I also understand that you are an honorable person and says it as he sees it.

OK, to those of you having a go at me, I live in the Bronx, my wife's from Trinidad, my closest mate of 20 years is a Bangladeshi I play cricket with, but I was born and lived 33 years in Manchester and my dad was still there till last year. So contrary to what some posters have said (i) I'm as much a Manc as any of you living there, and (ii) maybe I know a bit about race relations. I have read through this thread and watched it develop and I am amazed at some of the selfish, insensitivity of some of the posts.
We all have our own agendas as City fans, but sometimes it is necessary to put them to one side and understand the implications of the message you are writing.

Consider that you are Adebayor, you have spent 30 minutes in fear of dying, you witness your friends and colleagues being injured and murdered for no apparent reason. You are traumatised, confused and frightened. You are a leader of your group and you are asked to forget your personal needs and act as a responsible spokesman for your group. You put a shirt on that has the badge of your previous club but you do so without any malice towards your present one and without any thought of insulting the supporters of your present club. You complete the interview and are then informed that; on top of all your personal trauma, you have now caused insult to the supporters of City and you are being castigated on various City forums.
You now feel worse, not only have you suffered enough, you have now made yourself look a twat infront of the City fans.
Do we City fans need to add to the weight that Ade is already carrying?
