MuEN Benjani Article - Santa Knee Injury..or poor journalism

WTF???? Is this their usual slapdash reportage or did his knee go again the other night? He looked absolutely fine to me. (And if the third para refers to what kept him out of the Boro game.....was that not a calf strain???)

FORGOTTEN-man Benjani is hoping his Manchester City renaissance can earn him a contract extension at Eastlands.

The Zimbabwe star was signed from Portsmouth by Sven-Goran Eriksson two years ago.

But after a decent start to his Blues career, Benjani suffered a series of injury setbacks and eventually fell out of favour with former boss Mark Hughes to such an extent he went a full calendar year and made just three senior appearances.

However, with Roque Santa Cruz nursing a knee injury and Emmanuel Adebayor recovering from the trauma of the horrific gun attack on the Togo team bus at the African Nations Cup, new manager Roberto Mancini handed Benjani his chance in the FA Cup at Middlesbrough.

Sorry Ant the journalism may be spot on. As there is a bit of a club/UK blackout on RSC I just had a quick look at Paraguay, which gets news from his dad as he is obviously THE national treasure. La nacion (Paraguay) states that (roughly translated):

http://www.lanacion.com.py/noticias-287 ... -01-13.htm

Again the knee. The spectre of injuries seems as if its not going to go away for Manchester City's Paraguay forward RSC, who last Monday played a few minutes and again suffered trouble in his right knee. A while ago he had trouble in both knees (tendonitis), and the left was operated upon, but the worry continues.

The bad news has put the player, his club and his country (looking at the world cup) on 'maximum alert', although there is plenty of time.

Santa Cruz returned to action in the 82nd minute, replacing Benjani, in the 4-1 goalfest of City over Blackburn, in the PL. The last game that Santa had played was 19th Dec against Sunderland, in which he scored twice.

Aproniano Santa Cruz, his father and manager, said that his son had to travel urgently to Barcelona for an examination, with the aim of uncovering the seriousness of the trouble.

Roque suffers from tendonitis in the aforementioned knee, an injury that up until now has prevented his playing much for the light blues. The future of the player depends a lot on the results of this examination, and up til now he hasn't got the rhythm (playing time) necessary, bearing in mind that the WC starts in 5 months.

That article from Paraguay seems to suggest he's on his way back from Injury...it doesn't suggest a fresh one...or has my reading skills pre 10am let me down again?

Mate I'm not quite sure which approach to "reading" you are employing (maybe a random sampling of words....arabic style (right to left) or maybe reading it in a mirror)....but it is fair to say that my interpretation of the article differs quite significantly from yours ;-)

If this is true then for me it is worse than Ade wearing a Gooners shirt. We need RSC back firing on all cylinders, particularly if Ade is going to pull stunts like this. He looked great against Sunderland and sharp against Blackburn, lets hope it's just part of his recovery programme. I'm sure he wouldn't have been on the bench if he wasn't right.

If this is true we need to sign another striker quickly & take legal action against whoever did the medical. I find it surprising we'd be bringing him on for 10 mins with a knee injury though & also he looked really sharp & outpaced Blackburn's defenders, which must be a big worry for them in that case. I thought it was a calf injury that had kept him out?

Hope he doesn't need another operation...but seriously, could he be fine enough to be on the bench, and then pick such an injury in less than 10 minutes played? What are his knee tendons made of, paper?

It was on the box when we overpaid for him as he'd been a crock for the past 12 months.

We need another striker with him totally unreliable, and Adebayor available again god knows when, assuming he turns up at City and not Arsenal as well, as it appears to have slipped his mind what team he plays for and pays his wages this past 24 hrs.

So long as Cook doesn't pick him up from the airport as he'll probably take him to old trafford by mistake

He looked completely ineffective when I saw him last week. If Roque is knackered we need a signing imo & a real quality one. We don't know what we'll get from Ade now, he looked a mess on tv, he could come back glad to be alive or a shambles. We can't go through the rest of the season without a proper CF. That's what ruined us last season & will again.
