Royle for me, it was miracle stuff he did!

the 2001-2002 season was the best football i have watched city ever play. fair enough it was 2nd tier, but it was more entertaining than any city side i have seen. not as good as the book side of 76 and 77, but just flair in abundance.

benarbia was worth a journey on his own.

The above for me, Ali B was simply wanktastic....oh to have a young Ali B now

quite funny actually....I was talking about him here to some locals. Obviously he was Algerian so he's massively well known in North Africa. Was cool to be able to talk about him with people who appreciated how great he was (even tho they fookin hate Algerians!!!)

Good little article on a MOM performance here

haha....funny insight into the Keegan "Tactical Mind" there. "I think this side has more goals in it than my Newcastle team"....roughly translates as, "so I have even less interest in us being able to defend"

Funny! I still love Keggy despite his faults. Actually I think I love him more because of them.

I'll get slated for this, but

Howard Kendall.

He stopped the rot, and set in place what Peter Reid reeped success from for 2.5 years. Kendall was a genuinely top notch manager at the time. I was really gutted when he left, because we would have won something with him.

Peter Reid managed to carry it on for abit, then it all fell apart for him.

Keegan, for entertainment value, but think Joe Royle did the most for us - and he seems like a thoroughly nice guy too, which you can't say about many football managers.

Technically I think Sven was the best manager we had, as he had the tactics and the football we played was good, if not Keegan exhilarating. He had a lot of shit to put up with and a bare bones squad to work with, and I think without key injuries and all the shadiness in the background we would have finished top 6. He brought in some good players and moulded the youth, and was well liked. It would have been interesting to see what would have been like with massive cash backing.

Keegan was great for entertainment, the best I have seen. Tactically clueless.

Royle, whilst good the football was not the greatest and in fairness he brought us up twice, one of which was unexpectedly, i think the game evolved past his knowledge once we were in the Premier and he had taken us far as he could.

I guess a blending of all three of those would have been good. Sven for tactics, Keegan for attacking, and Royle for spirit and doggedness.

Best for us: Reid. Finishing 5th in consecutive years (and being above the Scum for once) gets my vote. He did follow Kendall (very competent) but the lad was pulling on the shirt for a while too. No easy task.

Best manager: Sven...look at his record.

Best Fun... Keegan, by a mile
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

I was out of touch and too far away in the Peter Reid years so from what I remember myself it's between Royle and Keegan. Royle got City two promotions, I will never forget him sitting drained in the Wembley dressing room after the Gillingham final or standing on the touchline with his arms out to greet Kennedy charging at him after the third goal at Blackburn. But the football was rough at times. Under KK it was sublime. He brought Benarbia to City and Ali only signed because of Keegan's reputation. KK also brought the first win against the rags in years in the last derby at Maine Road. Since I've cared about City, Joe Mercer gets gold (obviously), Keegan silver, Royle an honourable mention but maybe not even the bronze.

Sven. Not only for the quality of some of the football, but for two derby wins and the sense that we were progressing.
And I still miss Elano...
