WHAT'S YOUR SEMI TEAM?

Postby Manx Blue » Sun Jan 17, 2010 3:45 am

OK, this is possibly a little early ahead of Tuesday with knocks and strains after last night. I can't see another thread, so apologies if I've missed it and duplicated....Here's mine

--------------------- Given------------------------

Richards-------Boyata----Kompany----Zabaletta

----------------Viera----De Jong--------------------

SWP----------------Ireland---------------Bellamy

---------------------Tevez------------------------

I think Vieira will be selected to give a bit more steel in front of and to the back four. If Rooney and Owen are likely start up front, Boyata may drop out for a player with a bit more experience

Intriguing Xavi! I only picked 10, so popped De Jong in there. Has Barry played LB for us yet?

Unfortunately due to our injury problems we can't make wholesale changes, because if it was an option it's what I'd be doing. From where I was stood, obviously the whole team played poorly tonight but Zabaleta, Robinho and Barry were particularly bad. Players need to know they're not invincible. Having Ned back is a plus and I'd like him to play- he knows more than any of them what a derby is all about and I think he's a calmer head with a more composed style of defending than Zabs. In a derby that could be especially crucial.

I'm honestly not sure what we'll get with Vieira yet, but it's a gamble worth taking. Push de Jong a little further up the pitch and just instruct Vieira to stay in front of the back four- Hamann style. Ireland can roam behind the forwards and create as only he can- setting us this way in a 4-3-3 suits him perfectly. If he's fit he should play in my opinion.

I think with Petrov after taking a knock the front three is self explanatory. The only other option would be Weiss but he might have already left on loan by then. We could change to a 4-4-2 with Benjani if needs be.

I think Mancini will have a calmer response to last night's debacle than we do, so I expect no massive changes.
Given that, I'd suggest this team :-

Given

Zabaletta Richards Kompany Garrido

Vieira .... De Jong

SWP ................................ Bellamy

Benjani Tevez

Subs : Boyata, Barry, Ireland, Robinho, Onuaha, Petrov, RSC

With the undoubted atmosphere firing all the players up, I'm still very confident of a decent result.

I would like to see Vieira in place for this game if hes fit, but if not then obviously keep Barry in place for midfield. I know Robinho dissapointed yesterday but if RSC is injured I dont quite feel confident in Benjani stepping up for this one.

I'm not sure Vieira will be ready for this one, but I agree with sticking Robinho in. As a last chance to say look I have faith, now show me what you are capable of otherwise I will haul your ass off.

I'd keep Richards at Centre Back to shackle Shrek and Zab at RB dont think Ned will be ready for this one and would like to see him come in against Scunny.

Bench: Taylor, Sylvinho, Petrov, Benjani, Onouha, Boyata, Weiss.

One of the most important games most of you can remember and you'd see it used to demonstrate a 'show of faith' ?

Mind boggling.
