Good idea for a new rule change

I cannot take any credit for this, it was actually the wifes idea!

She was watching liverpool lose to reading *snigger* last week and she said, its just ridiculous. Why have 7 subs on the bench? If a game goes into Extra time it should activate a clause for an extra substitute being available.

I thought about this and think she might have something. Its not a bad idea IMO.

She went right up in my estimation, but she then went on to say that maybe players who had already been subbed should be able to return after having a rest.... never mind eh.

Now what is this "substitutes" nonsense. It will never take off. 11 players is what you need, no more.

The idea of an extra sub for extra time is good, to be honest I'd also look to make it four subs available in normal time. As for players being subbed coming back on the pitch, that would work with an unlimited number of subs possible, or thereaboout, like it happens in basketball and volley. Not a bad shout, tbh, it could come handy in some situations.

Triangular football pitches with three teams playing at the same time, the game to have three thirds each consisting of an hour each, rolling subs and no referee, then again no referee might be a bit silly. This is the future!
We'd obviously have to try it in the Europa League first to how it went. It would increase the excitement imo as two teams could then gang up on the other team.

Was it on here (sounds like something Doom might propose) or somewhere else but recently I heard rolling subs discussed in the context of specialist teams/players (a la American football). Specialist free kick/penalty takers/saver being able to be brought on.

Actually, it was a David James column somewhere actually. He was saying it was a good potential innovation/development as you would see some virtuosos still in the game past the point where they would normally retire and/or hugely talented youngsters whose all round game wasn't up to it quite yet being wheeled on for specialised cameos.

Load of bollocks if you ask me.

I wouldn't be averse to normal rolling subs though to be honest

Fly keeper would be hilarious....nearest the net rules (and enough of the nesh bastards wear gloves these days...so they may as well be able to put them to decent use eh)
