I have no idea if this is true, but my brother in law is 100% certain this is the case, he is a scouse 1 fan so he would be. However, I am sure I have seen something on here about it being bollox and cannot find it. I was 100% sure he was taking bollox and ridiculed him because of it, but he was convincing enough to have me doubt myself. can someone confirm it for me please.

Yeah, they were saying this on 5 Live the other day. They were laughing about how funny it would be if Everton won it too.
They seemed pretty certain that if an English club won the Europa, the 4th spot would no longer be up for grabs.

I dunno if this is true. Not sure how that can work actually. Would be bloody typical though.

That would be utterly rediculous if true. Trust UEFA to make yet another pointless competition destroying rule.

2009/10 UEFA CL regulations say top 4 in domestic competition should represent England FA.

Didn't the same thing happen a few years ago when Liverpool won the Chumps League and Everton finished 4th or something? Seem to remember Everton fans being up in arms about them possibly not being in the Champions League but in the end they both were allowed in. Something along those lines.

I think the rule came into place after that, for some reason they hadn't considered the possibility beforehand. But we're talking about the Champions League there, not the Europa. So surely if Scouse 1 or 2 win the Europe League it has no bearing on Champs League qualification.

Definitely doesn't automatically promote the Europe winner into 4th in the Premier League like the OP suggests ;)

It's not even same argument mate. It's more ridiculous. IF they win UEFA Cup (or europa league or whatever it's called) they'd anyway get place in next years UEFA Cup not in Champion's League! Winner of UEFA Cup has never qualified for Champion's League.

If we won the UEFA cup the fourth spot wouldn't have even been mentioned !

Very unlikely but say United had an awful end of season in the league but won the Champions League .... they could deny someone the 4th spot place in the CL. That could well be us. :-(
