Sergio Canales

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Sergio Canales

I know we had a thread on this, but so many threads are going at the moment that I cant find it in the first 6 pages. Anyhow:

http://racing.eldiariomontanes.es/notic ... 00119.html

This paper from the Santander neck of the woods insists that his dad, Angel Canales, met with City representatives in Bilbao yesterday. He is listening to offers for this week (and last presumably) before taking a decision, aimed at the summer I would guess, although it doesn't say when.

He has already met Real I believe, and Chelsea, Scum, Inter, Bayern, Monaco, Everton, Spuds, Villa are all mentioned as 'linked' but nothing is stated as definitely as yesterday's meeting with City.

May be bollox of course, but you never know.

Difficult decision for a dad/agent. The guy has become a star suddenly at Racing, so he gets to play. A big move now to Real or, dare I say, City, may mean he doesn't get to play so much unless he's really exceptional compared to others we have/sign.

However I'm sure the financial considerations will soften such a dilemma.

Is it me or do they get younger every year?

Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

If you listen to the Guardian's Football Weekly podcast from yesterday Sid Lowe comments in some detail on this Canales contract situation.

The essential thrust is that his father/advisors are just sounding out other clubs at the moment and that he is fully expected to re-sign with Racing Santander BUT that there will be a very substantial release clause in his contract that is being inserted to ensure that when (rather than if) he goes, the club gets suitable recompense.

The view of his family/advisors is that he is currently too young to go to a massive club but they were thinking that 12-18 months down the line that they would be moving him on.

Bad news was the fact that they fully anticipated that they would go to Real Madrid.

Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

True.....unfortunately. Still, that kid looks like he's fresh out of diapers.

Well it's good that we are sounding out young talents worldwide. We may not get him if as it seems Real will be the preferred destination (maybe not immediately but as ant said, in a couple years) but even if we don't land him, we will eventually land someone of these young lads who are bound to become superstars of the future. Considering the rules for home grown players in European competitions (which to be honest I still don't know if are already in place or going to be in the future), this is the way forward.

Did we ever sign that Brazilian 'wonder' kid that had his picture with Robson at training?
