The League Cup - Is It An Omen Or Are They Cheating Scum?

Just been doing a bit of digging regarding the League Cup after what was mentioned on BBC regarding the dates of the final. It turns out that the League Cup Final is actually played on the same date as when we won our last cup 34 years ago, the 28th of February. On that day (when I was 4 years old) we beat Newcastle 2-1 with a classic overhead kick by Dennis Tueart, who coincidently, was born in Newcastle.

However, on another note, I did find this:
From Wiki

Semi-finals

The four quarter-final winners compete in this round.

The ties are played over two matches (one at each club's stadium), with the aggregate score being used to determine the winners. If the aggregate scores are level at the end of the 90 minutes, extra time is played. If the scores are still level at the end of extra time, the team which has scored more away goals goes through. If the number of away goals is still level, a penalty shootout is used to decide the winners.

Which shows that if the rags get 1 goal and hold out until extra time, they go through automatically. Don't get me wrong, I do expect more goals at the swamp, but it does worry me that they have a European type advantage going into the second leg.

So, the questions in the title?

Yeah there was a discussion about this in another topic. However, the difference from the Euro style away goals is that in Euro competitions the away goals count at the end of the second legs' 90 minutes, while here, they count at the end of extra time, so it's a bit better for us because if it is 1-0 for the rags at the end of the 90 mins, we get to play extra time so we have another half an hour to equalise and go through.

Fecking Hell Kladze, and there was me thinking I was adding to the board ;-)

Anyway, the first point still exists.

The reason this came about was when I was giving presentations today to college students. I was seriously winding the rag ones up about the score and how many goals Carlos had scored compared to Rooney. I also mentioned that they still had a chance at the swamp as we'd probably play ours kids - you know, because we still had an important cup game at the weekend in the FA Cup! Anyway, thought I'd pop down to get a brew and was speaking to a Jock lad who said that from what he saw, the ref had given us the goals to make the 2nd leg and League Cup more interesting, and that the rags only had to get one in the 90 to go through.

Obviously that isn't the case as it goes to extra-time first, but he finished with the 'You Know The Rags, They need the money, They'll get Their Ref for the return leg' statement.

PS. Mods - Merge/delete if required.

My understanding of this.
0-1 at the swamp = agg 2-2...extra time played...no further score in exra time= rags go through
1-1 at the swamp = No extra time...City go through
1-2 at the swamp = agg 3-3...extra time played...no further score in extra time = pemalties
2-2 at the swamp = no extra time...City go through
2-3 at the swamp = agg 4-4...extra time played...no further score in extra time = City go through.

The away goals are only counted after extra time.

John, one of your wives would probably have moaned because you put the scores the wrong way around!
Home team should be first!

No worries mate - I'm not the forum police :-)

I only added that link to save you and others the time and effort of having the debate all over again.

Seems like some of them want to anyway ;-)
