What are peoples thoughts on football violence these days?

Is it worse than what it use to be and is there to much riding on football matches nowadays for the sake of bragging rights and when things like this happen!

Although i would love the bragging rights that come with the thought of beating united and going to wembley.

I don't really know what your talking about, but football violence is clearly under much better control now than it was in the 70's/80's (at least in the UK). I don't think you can even argue about that, and no single incident can make it less true.

Football violence is virtually non-existant in comparison to 30 years ago. Back then the old bill didn't have a clue what to do about it and sometimes even helped the home team fans give a kicking out to the southerners or scousers.
Over time they got their shit together and with the help of CCTV and better tactics & intelligence they soon were able to clamp down on it. A bit of coin throwing and chair breaking doesn't constitute football violence imo and the lad who has been shot hasn't even made it onto the news so i doubt whether it had anything to do with the derby otherwise the press would have made a big deal of it.

Oh, it was one of those incidents. Has about as much to do with football violence in England as when some crazy "Scum fan" in Nigeria rides his car into a bunch of "Arsenal fans".

Without wanting to be too prejudiced, I did raise an eyebrow when I saw it was a link to the Belfast Telegraph.

Reading between the lines I would hazard a guess it was a drunken argument with its roots in sectarian bullshit, that turned nasty.

It's a very very tenuous link to it being related to the match at all. Man watches match in a bar, walks home and gets shot by a nutter walking round with a shotgun and the local politician says they have a problem with anti-social behaviour? If blokes want to get physical with other blokes, I don't really mind as long as no innocent people are affected. Problem is that innocent people always are, be it by being victims to violence or not being able to stand in a terrace, watching football.
