Football violence is absolutely nowhere near what it used to be...when I was younger it was going off every weekend home and away...practically every football team had a firm...you youngsters have no idea

Without wanting to be too prejudiced, I did raise an eyebrow when I saw it was a link to the Belfast Telegraph.

Reading between the lines I would hazard a guess it was a drunken argument with its roots in sectarian bullshit, that turned nasty.

There are some hardcore gangs in Dublin, often linked to drugs and organised crime. My guess is the guy said the wrong thing to the wrong fella and savage punishment resulted. Probably after the game but nothing at all to do with it.
But then listen to me turning every violent Dublin story into an organised crime story.

Yeah I expected someone to say as much to be honest, and I appreciate the point. But still, United do have strong catholic links, and loads of Irish fans. You used to see rangers/city hats and celtic/united hats, so it's not a big leap to make the suggestion IMO.

Must admit I did think it was in Belfast, and I read the article! In my defence i was rewatching the second half of the derby in between times and basically demand immunity to criticism on those grounds! Cheers in advance!
