Pizarro runs the show in midfield for Roma almost week in week out, but he's probably not physical enough for the english game. However he did the difference between a draw and a win on Saturday in Juve-roma, in the added time he tackled a juve player near midfield, then advanced ball on his feet, looked into the box and placed a perfect ball for Riise to head it in, it was the winning goal. If Pizarro has a fault is that he usually holds the ball too much and some times he loses it in risky areas.

Vucinic is class, but he's not consistent enough imho. Can be unplayable one game, and frustratingly poor the next. He was ace against Genoa and Triestina but very average against Juve, just to make an example. He's quick, has a good long shot and dribbling on him, and can set up goals, especially if you can find him on the left flank (but we have Bellers there), and you can ask him to help the team by tracking back, so he usually works hard. Not an out and out goalscorer, but scores his fair amount of goals too.

Some good names mentioned in this thread and some stinkers, Kevin Davies, John Carew and Carlton Cole were my favourites.

We should have signed Horseface for 6 months.

He could keep RSC company on the treatment table. How can you make the 'stinkers' comment and then suggest a 33-year-old horse who has played 16 (sixteen!!!!) games in 2 years???

Villa
Forlan
Dzeko

However, I think if Robbie goes Riberry would be the go to man. This would allow Bellamy to play up front.

Given Athleticos mid table mediocrity atm, Forlan and even Aguero are avaliable for the right price. We could do alot worse than them two.

I agree we need a new forward.

Horseface has gone to Hamburg I reckon.
Cole is not good but then seems to score (in a poor team)
Carew looks half decent from a distance but why does MON want rid?
Whoever is available must be better than Benjani of course.

Not sure Bobby has any money this window though.

I wouldnt mind raiding Spuds for Pavlechenko. He's a class act that guy but has never been given a proper run in the team by Twitchy.
Wonder what they'd sell him for? 10 mill?

Villa, Dzeko, Auguerro, Torres, Henry there are loads of top strikers that we may have a shot at getting tbh, I would love Villa here

NOT Forlan though.

If we do let both Robbie & Benjani go, after letting Weiss go to Bolton, it would seem logical to assume we'll bring some kind of attacking player in. I wonder if it'll be either a youngster or a veteran though rather than a player who expects to start every game? Vic Moses perhaps?

I'd bring in Balotelli, if we aren't going to spend big on Dzeko. Mancio knows him, the lad loves Mancio as he was the manager who gave him his debut at Inter, and he's very, very talented. He can play on both flanks, is quick, strong, and can hit mean free kicks too, as an added bonus. After all, he spent hours practicing them with Mancio himself and Mihajlovic after training, that has to have taught him something.

After thinking this for a while, how about admitting we missed the boat in summer and go with megabid for Darren Bent?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Strike pair set for Upton Park

West Ham United, 14:51, January 25, 2010

West Ham are close to sealing deals for strike duo Benni McCarthy and Benjani from Blackburn and Manchester City.
The Hammers hope to complete a £2.5million deal for McCarthy from Blackburn, in time for Tuesday's relegation battle against Portsmouth.

However they may have to wait until Thursday to agree terms with Manchester City's Benjani, who is likely to be involved in the Citizens' Carling Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester United on Wednesday.

McCarthy, 32, is desperate to play regular first-team football in the run up to the World Cup in his native South Africa and is likely to sign a two and a half year deal at Upton Park.

Zimbabwean, Benjani, has impressed new boss Roberto Mancini recently but is likely to fall back down the pecking order now Emmanuel Adebayor has returned from the African Cup of Nations and could be allowed to leave.
