Can someone explain the Away goals rule in the Carling Cup?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Can someone explain the Away goals rule in the Carling Cup?

Postby avoidconfusion » Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:52 am

I am really confused by this. It is my understanding that the Away goals rule only kicks in if the aggregate score is level after extra time is played, right?

Does that mean if United lead 1:0 after Extra time they are through because the goal they scored at Eastlands counts twice?

Or would we not even get into Extra Time because they were leading 1:0 and then we are through?

Does my head in this! Someone explain it to me please.

I know we are through if we draw and if we lose with a 1 goal difference and the scoreline being equal or higher than 3:2 , right?

It count after extra time only, if it 1-0 to the scum after 90 mins then extra time will be played.

Ok, so if after extra time the scoreline is still 1:0 for United, then we are out, right?

If rags are leading 1-0 then it goes into extra time. If we fail to score in extra time then they go through. If it's 2-1 after extra time it'll go to penalties, 3-2 & we go through.

aye - it will only go to pennies if we get an away goal i.e 2-1
if it finishes 3-2 in extra however then we win. Its a complex rule to say the least

Its the same as any other competitions away goal rule. The only difference is that it comes into effect in injury time.

If it is 2-1 or 1-0 to us at 90 mins, the 4th Official will be instructed to add as many extra minutes it takes for United to score more goals than us, without the need for extra time. Simples....

What if it goes to Penalties and we all fail to score - are the players allowed to have something to eat or have a sleep. How long will the supporters stay? What if you have workl, can you leave but coe back for free? If you have a kid with you and you bring him home can you bring another in? And who'll mind your spot?

Confused.

im no expert, but as i understand the rule...if City score 1 and United score 0, then we're through. If City score 2 and United score 4, then they win, AND they are through. If City don't score, and United DO score, but score LESS THAN 2, then it's extra time, where if NO ON ELSE SCORES then it's united and if it's City that scores BUT NOT UNITED, then WE are through. If no one scores, then we're through but not on away goals. If it does go to penalties, the team that scores the most pens wins AND goes through to the final.

If City score more than United in regular time, then obv we're through! Duh.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that only the Rags are allowed to score in Fergie time.
