Following on from the Robbie thread... was just thinking and can't think of anyone we have ever loaned out who came back a better player and we benefited/profited as a result?!!??

Loaning out is only effective for youngsters needing match practice, they come back better for it. Like Sch. Jnr when he went to Bury.
Loaning out a player over the age of 23/24 means only one thing, they are not good enough for the team, are paid too high a wage meaning teams at their level cannot afford to buy.
It's the reason why we are loaning out so much at the mo. No team can afford the wages our players our on and a transfer fee.

I don't think we've ever loaned anyone out that has come back full stop
In fact...would be interesting to find out if other teams have loaned out players with them coming back revitalised
I reckon they would be almost non existent too

Vidal probably benefited from his loan at Aberdeen.

Defoe springs to mind, when he scored 13 in 10 or something silly for Bournemouth as an embryo.

Ched Evans at Norwich?
Thing is, we're only now becoming a top club, so the chances of a precedent are slim.
Its a rarity in general anyway in England, but it happens in Spain and Italy a fair bit...

Beckscum was loaned out to PNE was he not?
I think there are probably quite a few youngsters that were loaned out to lower division clubs and went on to have a great career at top-level. As someone else pointed out, very unlikely any player above a certain age (I'd say about 21) will ever come back and make it.

Albert Riera and Daniel Van Buyten are two from other teams that I can think of immediately.

good shout re Van Buyten......I agree. I'd actually say that Riera remains pretty pants, as he was when he got to City
read this.....sounds like it's from a parallel universe from the one that us lucky City fans currently live in. If memory serves me, he did come back to Eastlands and proved himself (to be a soft arsed waste of space)
Despite the club's pursuit of CSKA Moscow's Brazilian striker, Jo, and Ronaldinho, whom club representatives will meet in Brazil this weekend, Rolando Bianchi has said Hughes' arrival has made him determined to return from a loan spell at Lazio to prove himself. "Now, I will return to Manchester where I have great desire to prove myself," Bianchi said. "The fact that Lazio chose not to sign me was the club's choice to make. In January I chose Lazio for lots of reasons, but the main one was the chance to make the deal permanent in June."

Denis Law and Peter Barnes.
Not loans of course, but went away, did well, came back.
and sweep, although his middle section wasn't so good
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

We loaned in Van Buyten not the other way around...the clue was in the 'Loaned Out' bit ;-)

You pondered over whether other teams had loaned out and they'd come back better. DVB was one such example.

That's debatable...he was a great player before he came on loan to us...i'm not sure we made any difference in his development

Actually, my original question posed in the other thread was
Have any clubs loaned out players who have returned from their loans and performed well (and remained happy) at the clubs who had originally loaned them out
ie. they weren't sold on, nor did they sink from view, or agitate for a move elsewhere and instead gave decent (not even necessarily improved but at least more than adequate) service to the club that owns them

a tougher one to answer
