Italian right-back Marco Motta has confirmed that last night’s Coppa Italia clash with Catania was his last appearance for Roma before completing a loan move to English outfit Manchester City.

The 23-year-old was handed a rare starting shirt by Claudio Ranieri at the Olimpico as the Lupi booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition with a 1-0 victory.

But Roma and Udinese, who co-own the former Italy U21 captain, have already agreed to loan him out to Roberto Mancini’s side.

Motta is expected to travel to Eastlands in the coming hours and bid an emotional farewell to the Maggica faithful after yesterday’s encounter.

“I want to thank everyone for these months I spent with the Giallorossi,” he told LaRoma24.it.

And when asked if he had truly made his final appearance for the club, he added: “Thanks again, see you soon…”

Good stuff, hopefully he'll come in and shore up the defense that little bit more.

Good move by Bobby Manc!

Papers in Italy give this deal as nailed on since Monday, so it doesn't surprise me that he said that. He played a very good game yesterday, especially in the first half where he was constantly going up and down his flank to support the attack but careful not to leave his position exposed, before being subbed with ten minutes to go to a round of applause from the Olimpico, while Cicinho who came on was "welcomed" on the pitch by boos (which I thought stupid, it's the best way to destroy what little cofidence he still has).

He probably will be in Manchester today to see the derby, and then start training with the team from tomorrow.

Suppose you're the best person to ask...do you think he will do well here?

The question is, is he an improvement on what we've already got?

The answer is, you never know until he plays about 5 or 6 games. Names don't mean shit as we should all know at this stage!

He might. He's quick, and physically strong. Can attack, but doesn't leave the flank exposed as he goes back quickly when the ball is lost. At times is still defensively suspect, but I reckon he can't be worse than Zabba who constantly gives away dangerous fouls and gets cards, or Micah who might be faster and stronger but is less of a footballer and can leave an hole in his position when the ball is lost.

I am really pleased with this - big problem area for me

Just wish it could have been kept under wraps until tomorrow - do not want Micah thinking about anything else than putting his foot through Rooney tonight

What a time for Micah to be told somebody is coming in to challenge for your place. Well done City...he`ll play out of his skin tonight.

Roma coach Claudio Ranieri Blocks Marco Motta's Manchester City Move

Roma defender Marco Motta will not join Manchester City, as the very latest reports from the Italian capital claim the move has been called off.

Motta was set to join the Premier League club on Wednesday evening, but rumours filtering through Rete Sport Radio in Rome offer a contrasting view.

The report claims Claudio Ranieri has blocked the move completely and called back Motta. It is said Ranieri is not impressed with Cicinho's less than perfect condition, and he is not willing to lose Motta. The Italian defender played in the 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Catania on Tuesday night and he did well. With Marco Cassetti also in doubt as a regular starter, Ranieri has vetoed the move.

Neither club has confirmed the reports. Motta was expected to join City until the end of term on loan.
