He'd have gone by now but we pay him too much for anyone else to take him. There will be a lot more of these.

Why can't we pay something towards him going? It would still be cheaper than paying his full wages & it means if he ends up on the treatment table for the next 2 years it's someone elses problem.

Sunderland still hopeful on Benjani

Steve Bruce is hopeful Benjani Mwaruwari will soon be unveiled as a Sunderland player despite the transfer deadline having passed.

The Black Cats manager believes all the paperwork had been submitted in time ahead of the 5pm deadline and is optimistic the Manchester City striker is heading for the Stadium of Light.

The 31-year-old joined City from Portsmouth in a protracted deal at the end of the January 2008 transfer window which required the Premier League to scrutinise whether the deal had in fact been completed on time.

Bruce is optimistic and told ESPN: "I think we've lodged everything it in time, we've done everything we possibly can and I'm convinced we had everything in in time."

I'd rather not send him anywhere to be honest. When you're minted you don't need to offload at 1st asking, he's done a job this season and unlikely as it is may be needed again at some stage.

It's fucking daft. Nothing happens for four weeks then everyone goes like hell for leather in the last 24 hours. I understand the posturing between clubs and the hagling but if clubs are missing out on their targets, like we are reported to have done, then it makes no sense at all.

I actually think transfer windows should be scrapped, I don't see the up side of them. Clubs should be able to do a deal all year round.

I am pretty annoyed that we went about things the way we did this window, deals where there to be done for mariga and gago and we should have got our act together and sorted them out way before deadline day, complications like work permits should have already been thought out and we should have had our man (whomever it was) waaaaaaay before 5pm yesterday. As it stands we missed out on both, heads are gonna roll for this one I reckon

Perhaps Mancini never really wanted Mariga. Perhaps he did it just to wind up Inter. Le'ts face it they were pretty prompt at splashing the cash once City announced they couldn't get the kid.

Who knows perhaps Mancini will get some parma ham sent to him as a thank you. City don't need to worry about money, but it's about getting the right price set. Inter coughed up immediately .......

We are aware of the guy now so we will take interest in him when we watch any inter game to see how he plays. perhaps more so than if he had stayed at Parma.

I really don't think we would have let "the joke" go as far as agreeing a price and terms if all it was doing was to piss off Inter Milan, I am sure mancini has moved on professionally anyway
Its just a cockup on our behalf, plain and simple
