I can't see Mancini paying £7m for someone to sit on the bench. He's not used to this big spending lark, so £7m to him is quite a big signing.
I'm he gets straight into it with us and is as good as is anticipated he'll be in the England squad for SA no problems.

He's got all the skills needed, good tricks, kicks with both feet nice turn of pace & willing to put the yards in. Also has a great shot on him with plenty of power & the ability to deliver a really nasty swerving cross. If he stays on the right path, I can imagine him becoming a real specialist at delivering crosses & provided he keeps on working at it; taking free kicks.
Very very similar to Downing but a lot trickier & potentially much better imo.
Exactly, he will become far better than Downing though, i have no doubt about it.
Just watched him on a recording & he looked miles better than Downing already.

Welcome Adam.
Hope your as good as your being hyped up on here by some.
I just hope he isnt the level of our pulling power.I thought the big names would want to play for Roberto.
An ageing Patrick and a championship player hardly seem like reaching for the stars to me.

He may well be better than Downing, Boro fans certainly seemed to think so. You mentioned the others. My only major concern about him would be that he's physically up to the rigours of the PL because he was injured when he played us this year & seemed to be struggling after an hour of last year's game. Provided he can aquire a PL fitness level he has all the ability that people are saying & the brains to go with it.

Jesus H, you lot have me UNBELIEVABLY excited about a player I've barely ever noticed before!
How the fuck did this guy, who's a nailed on future star, who could well be on the plane to South Africe as England's anwser to a ten year old left wing problem, slip by my radar??!

Nothing like a bit of overhyping the lad eh ( is overhyping a word?) Good player no doubt at all and he has played well for the U 21's but I think much of this talk is a tad premature. It smells of the press build him up to knock him down stuff.
Having said that he will give us more than Petrov as he works backwards as well and he will give us more than Robinho as he seems to be a real effort player and pretty consistent and he will give us more than SWP. Well i am not sure about the last one but all in all a quality signing.

He's only really had one half PL season as an adult player & has had injuries, also had to try & find a place for himself in Boro's team because Downing was already there in his position so he's tended to just get bunged in the team on the opposite side. He's not scored many goals in the PL either so hasn't set the world on fire. The ability is there though. This season he's shone in the Championship but obviously there's a big difference to doing that in the prem .
If you watch him play for England U21's though he's always one of the best players & easily outshone Michael Johnson at that level although he has been greedy sometimes. Most of the other players he compared favourably with are doing ok in the PL though & some play for the full England team.
What we've bought is genuine talent, whether he produces it is up to him. He may not make it but the talent is without question.

Agree with you Ted. The lad has all the talent needed, to put it into perspective, alongside Milner, Walcott and others in a very strong U21 side last summer, he shone by far the brightest. If he steps up and adapts to this level (which i'm sure he will) the lad will be a big big star, he has all the raw tools to really make a big impact on how we progress here at city for many years to come.

I remember him playing against us way back a month ago and he was their best player until he went off. Seemed decent enough for the U21s. Really haven't seen that much of him.
Sounds good but no point in over-hyping him. There are plenty of teams that could afford £7m (+extras) for a super-duper youngish English winger already hoping to break into the World Cup squad.
I'm a bit confused by all the references on here to injury concerns, can anyone shed any light? He's played 28 games so far this season.

This signing reminds me of when Aston Villa signed Ashley Young. He has ALL the tools needed, that I know from what I've seen of him for both Boro and England U21's. Not finished article but not too far either so we will be able to use him immediately, although don't expect him to start and play every game.
Like Ted said well, it's up to the lad now. It's basically impossible to say now whether he will make it or not in the end. Like I said, all the tools are there but whether he has mental strength to keep working on his skills or if he becomes lazy because of decent money he is on now remains to be seen and at this point no one can really predict either way.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
