Mido earns 1K per week.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Mido earns 1K per week.

Top flight footballers are well known for commanding astronomical salaries and deals topping £100,000-a-week are not uncommon.
But Mido will now pocket a meagre £1,000-a-week - less than some plumbers earn - after penning a loan deal from Middlesbrough until the end of the season.
The "nominal" sum paved the way for what West Ham owner David Sullivan described prior to its completion as "one of the most amazing deals of all time."
"He doesn't want to be known as a 'has been' of English football, so he is willing to come here to play for a nominal fee, just £1,000-a-week," Sullivan said.
"Mido is a rich boy, even though he is still only 26, and he told us he doesn't need the money, but he wants to prove something in English football."
Mido, who has had previous spells in England with Tottenham and Wigan, said: "I am here to play football and to prove a point, definitely. I am very happy to be here.
"I had to sacrifice some things but this is a great club and I am sure I will do well here, hopefully.

Fair play to the lad. West Ham are also probably going to save around £1m

LOL now is the time for Mido to bust a gut(s) for West Ham, score the goals that guarantee safety then when he starts angling for a three year deal at 40k a week to fuck him off. Treat him as the mercenary he is. Proving people wrong my ass its a tactic to land another silly contract that he goes cold on after three months. Might be wrong.

4k a month, eh? That's still few hundred quids more than I earn and I have academic degree. And I belong best earning 2% in this world. So to call it nominal can be seen as insulting.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

haha....I knew you'd have something to say about this.

On the basis that footballers wages cannot really be compared to "normal" jobs in any sensible way....and on the basis that he is operating in the top end of his profession (ie within the PL), and will be working with colleagues who are arguably much less talented than he who will be earning 20, 30 or 40 times what he is...I would say that his "salary" very much is nominal at the very best.

1k a week in London does not go very far I will tell you that much

If he already wasn't worth millions I'd agree with that bit. And to be fair, in most professions, mine included, you'd probably earn at least 1.5 times if not twice as much in London as you did anywhere else in Europe.

yeah that's kind of my point though mate

He's essentially paying himself to play for West Ham as what he's being paid (after tax) won't even cover his accomodation costs.

I agree with you and LAHAD that the "nobility" of such a gesture is questionable when he has earnt well and not really repaid the investment at previous clubs BUT going back to my comments in a previous thread, I think it does show that he's made this move for footballing reasons and to prove his worth in England that he's playing for nothing to play for a better footballing side when he could have gone to Hull or Fulham and picked up a normal salary.

That's got to be worth good 1.5k-2k every week, looking at the shape he is.
