New idea for analysis on this board

Postby Wonderwall » Wed Feb 03, 2010 1:12 pm

We all watch the games and give our views and there is a very wide spectrum of thought regarding performances of individuals and opinions can range from Shit....Fantastic from people watching the same game.

My idea is to select a player to analyse before the match begins. We can all have a good look and concentrate on him in particular and then discuss at length. I think this would be the best way to give an opinion on any single player rather than the team performance. I came to this thought because I like given but often wonder if he should have come for crosses or distributed the ball better or faster to start a counter attack etc etc.

What do you think?

Whilst this is a good idea in theory it wont really work i think because

1) ppl who dont go to the games cant watch there man or anything he does off the ball as camera prob wont be on him

2) Whose to say the designated fancam member doesnt have a bias towards/against that player

3) Ppl here often have different opinions watching exactly the same player so why would u trust my analysis etc

Ppl will just have to agree to disagree,

Nice idea - i'd go for that.

On Given, yes, he might come for more crosses. It's a good job he's such an outstanding shot stopper because he's not a great catcher and it often leads to someone having a pop. As for distribution, this is something I have noticed.

Being fair to him he seems very keen to get rid quickly, often with a throw, but I have noted that he runs to the edge of his area and looks for an out to throw to but struggles to find people in space or wanting the ball and so he gives up, puts the ball on the deck and hoofs it.

We don't have enough players looking to break upfield quickly enough, mainly because we have two defensive midfielders (Barry and de Jong) so we're outnumbered in the centre of the park, with two wingers out wide.

Yeah mate, that's not a bad idea.

However, what I'd really like is a break down of the critical moments in a match - just like MRM did with the Rooney goal.

The match preview is a regular thing on this site and TBH I think MRM did a better job than any of those knobs on MOTD. You could go one further like you said and have someone nominated to do a "player watch", but its not an easy thing to do at a live game without takng notes and missing the good shit!

MRM - will you be our post match analysist?!! :)

That is sound idea imo. Let's give it a go!
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Who would people suggest be the first player to try this on, I reckon someone who has come under alot of scrutiny lately so i would suggest Barry, Ireland or maybe garrido (purely because i think his positioning is so bad and would like to hear other peoples views post game

We have plenty of games left so it has to be someone who is in the starting line up?

Barry does seem to be in the firing line lately! Maybe we can dissect his performance and send the analysis to Mancini ;-)

Good idea in theory but not practical imo. People will just open threads about other players they want to discuss so you'll be back to square one. And what if the chosen player plays well and another player has a feckin stinker, all the attention and comments will quite rightly be diverted onto and about him instead.

I have no right answer, its just an idea. I would not want to quash discussion on other players whatsoever. All I would like to do is concentrate on a player a little more than you would normally and bring something to the board. It is something we all tend to do anyway in reality. Vassell got dissected to death every week ;-)

A single thread about a different player each week. No-one has to contribute if they dont want to its all voluntary.

I say let's give it a go, put the poll up for us to pick a player try it for a few weeks if it don't work just fuck it off simples.

Just one question once a player has been picked les say Ireland and we all have a look at him and say what we think surely the week after he wont in the poll again will he?

Good point, probably keep an analysed player out for 3-4 weeks
