Toure overrated?

Postby Gloryhunter123 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 10:09 pm

I know it might be to soon to judge him but he looks complete utter shite , today he was lucky he didn't give a pen away.
Does he just need more time to get a feel for the game again ?
Is he just overrated? Do we need a replacement in summer?

It wast a pen mate, he was initially fouled by elmander and the linesman played advantage until there was no advantage and flagged for the initial foul.

Toure was ok today

I've not been impressed with Toure this season.

I would give Kompany and Lescott a few games together to see how they get on. Kompany has probably been our most consistent centre back this season and Lescott started to show a bit of form before his injury.

I'd probably even place Onouha ahead of Toure in terms who I think our best centre backs are.

Toure certainly isn't playing like he did most of the time for Arsenal. He's had a couple of games thou where he's been imense earlier in season (althou he might have just given me that impression because he was playing alongside a very poor Lescott) and his positional play in general is quite sound most of the time. He's certainly decent enough for us at this stage but I'm still not convinced about him being Captain tbh

I thought he was immense early on in the season.

But I still think our defence should be Vince as captain, next to lescott. And in the other thread it seems like this view is now pretty common. He seems to look like hes panicing alot and IMO lescott shits himself when he plays alongside him.

Given has also started to shit me up the way he messes about with the ball.

I thought Toure was fine today.

I think he works well with Vince. Thats the most important thing. Their attributes combined make for a strong central defence. Toure and Lescott are too similar, they never blend together as a unit.

Which is what central defence is.

I thought Toure was shite today, and is in general. Well, I say shite, I just mean he isn't to the level required. Kompany though was excellent, and Lescott put a few good interceptions in when he came on.

I'd like to see Komps and Lescott get a run together. There was one instance tonight where a ball was played to the edge of our box and instead of Toure stepping forward and taking the ball and flattening the man, he actually took a step back to assess and cover, and in giving their man space (Elmander I think), a ball was flicked through and but for the ball havign too much pace on it, could've cost us dearly. That kind of thing is happening every game, and has done for most of Toure's games.

Whereas Lescott, I felt he was finding his feet and playing very well until he got injured. Now he's come back, he doesn't look like he's missed 5 minutes. Slotted straight back in tonight and but for one bad pass, he didn't put a foot wrong.

Plus he can head the ball. Which is a plus. I never realised just how short Toure was until he signed for us. I wonder if Hughes was hoodwinked in the same fashion as I.

Me too about that but I thought he didn't too bad before he was taken off. On that note Lescott did well for his first game back too :)

I didn't want him when he signed so I rated him to begin with.

I wanted the 'Player Analysis' on Kolo with regard to captaincy, so kept an eye and thought he played really well.

I felt a lot more secure when it was Lescott and Kompany in defense. Toure always seems to play right on the edge to me and for a big bloke he's easy to push off the ball.

Agree 100% we looked so much more solid at the back when he came on to partner Vincent. That could be the way to go.

What on earth do you mean too soon to judge ?

You are about three months too late.

He's crap and should not make the team.

I think Mancini has seen enough.

I think we looked alot more secure when lescott came on for whatever reason and started playing better. Although kolo did make some good tackles.
