Robinho has warned Brazilian teen sensation Neymar not to rush into joining Manchester City.
Robinho hopes to stay at Santos beyond the end of his loan deal in August and sources in Brazil expect City to ask for 18-year-old Neymar as part of negotiations after the World Cup.

But although has praised the Barclays Premier League team for handling him fairly, he is not about to return the favour by selling the club to his new team-mate.

City have secured first options on Neymar and impressive 20-year-old playmaker Paulo Henrique Ganso, but Robinho said: 'I have talked to them. There needs to be calm.

'Europe for them is a natural step. They don't need to rush to leave.

'Many people see Europe and see a thousand marvels because of the Champions League, the marketing, the structure. But it is not that simple.

'You can earn well and be more secure, but the downside is that you are in a different country, with a different language, in a team that is not so well integrated.

'In my team, I played almost as a fourth man in midfield, a defensive midfielder going backwards and I had to turn around.

'You need luck to fall into a good team with people there to help you.'

Robinho risked angering City earlier this week in a television interview with Bem, Amigos when he suggested he would only return to Europe to play for another club.

Santos are talking to sponsors about an offer that would keep him at the Vila Belmiro until the middle of next year, while Robinho is prepared to stay even longer.

But he clarified: 'My goal is to stay at Santos, to extend the loan. Now I have to respect my contract with City, who have always been very correct with me.

'If I go back to Europe, it will depend on what the club decides, but, as I said, I wish to stay where I am for a long time.'

Next week, Santos expect to confirm new contracts with Neymar and Ganso that will tie the players to the club until the end of 2014, giving them significant pay rises and huge buy-out clauses.

Regardless of what he says about us, it's really disappointing that someone as talented as him wants to spend his career playing in a sub-standard league when he could be pitting himself against the world's best.

He'll be treated like a god at Santos and will earn a comfortable living, but his apparent dream of becoming the world's best footballer will never be achieved.

On his day, he can be an immense player and with the right work ethic and commitment, he could have achieved so much. It's a real shame that he has chosen the path he's currently heading down.

When did Robinho ever play as a defensive mid, he barely put a tackle in let alone help out in defence and track back.. Elano showed a bit more passion for the club I mean least he offered to play out of position to help the club out, Robinho despite being on a huge contract had a sulk and moved back to a league where defending is basically not important as long as you can score 5 the other team surely can't score that many
