Move for Maicon in the Summer?

The quotes from his agent sound positive. Best right back in the world. Would love him at City!!

Maicon's agent has opened the door for the Inter Milan star to join Manchester City at the end of the season.

Eastlands boss Roberto Mancini, who managed the Brazil international as San Siro boss until 20 months ago, sees him as the best right-back in the world.

The Italian would love to sign Maicon in the summer, and the player's representative Antonio Caliendo admits it could happen if Inter president Massimo Moratti can be tempted by City's millions.

'Mancini has always expressed his desire to have Maicon, so it doesn’t come as a surprise,' said Mancini. 'We’ll see what Inter intend to do at the end of the season.

'When you have a contract in the way, it takes two parties to get things done. We are aware of offers for Maicon but for him to leave Inter, the club must agree to it.
'Both parties have to benefit from it. If there were this benefit we could talk about it. So, the choice is up to president Moratti, it’s him who will decide whether to release Maicon.'

Chelsea, who are looking at the right-back options, have also been linked with him.

He certainly changed his tune all out of a sudden hasn't he?

Wasn't he quoted last summer saying "let's not even joke about Maicon going to City" , insinuating that he is far too good for us?

If I was Inter's chairman I'd snap our hand off.

Forget right back, we've plenty of options. What we need is more defensive midfielders. We're forced to play Adebayor and Tevez at the moment our squad is so small.

he really is not the best right back in the world. Best wing back, maybe, although Alves will fancy that crown.
I'd actually prefer to stick with Micah at RB than Maicon - something has put me off "superstar" brazilians, can't think what.

On recent evidence, so is Micah.

Who is the best right back in the world then? I cant think of many better. He'd be a big improvement on what we currently have, provides a constant attacking threat down the right and is a strong and decent defender despite what people on here say. Inters back 4 let in very very few goals.

The problem is that he's a big threat going forward but he's often suspect when he is confronted by a winger who actually attacks him, instead of worrying about Maicon's own attacking ability. So I'm not completely sure he's the answer for RB. Now if you ask me who the answer is then, I have no clue. I can't think of a RB who is both sound defensively and good going forward.

There aren't many wingers in the the premier league right now, well, not good ones anyway, so is it really necessary to have such a great fullback, if what you are giving away in defensive ability you can make up for in supporting the attack?

Sure some cunt will now remind me of at least 10 good wingers ;)

He's too slow and gets forward too much - its ok in serie A but risky in the prem imo

Oh well, if you put it this way, then I guess he could be the answer. ;) But let's not forget that we eventually plan to compete for the CL too, and there we will have to meet teams like Barcelona who have wingers, and the games he had against them this term exposed his weaknesses.

Don't rate him so much, to be honest, but I may be wrong.

Can't help thinking a Richards/Maicon competition at RB would be better than a Zabaleta/Richards one. Or does no-one want to improve now?

hmm you could be right. I personally don't rate Maicon as highly as most but each to their own, in the above scenario though I think you a right.
