Super fans can swing it for us, says De Jong

With Liverpool's visit shaping up as City’s biggest match of the season so far, Nigel de Jong reckons a passionate City of Manchester Stadium could edge it for the Blues.

The Dutch midfielder also insists that league positions going into Sunday's showdown will count for nothing.

“It won’t make any difference who goes into the game above the other because Liverpool is always going to be a huge game and a match we will be giving our all to win,” said De Jong.

“They are a huge club, one of the Premier League’s ‘big four’, and as a player, these are the games you want to be involved in.

“We also have the added incentive of knowing a win will dent one of our main rivals for a Champions League spot. We have to prepare as we always do for our home games and aim to take all three points.”

One of the players of the season, De Jong reckons the City fans have a huge part to play: "I love the City fans and the fighting spirit they have – it’s something I can really relate to.

“I noticed from the moment I arrived in Manchester how many Blues there were compared to Reds. This is a working-class city. The people are used to hard work and want to see players play in a way I think they would if they had the opportunity.

"I’m the type of player who wants to
work and fight hard on the pitch too"

"I’m not the sort of player who will make a nice move during a game – in fact, I’d rather win a fair, crunching tackle than score a goal!

“That’s just how I am and I can see the passion our fans have for this club, from small kids through to adults. They have City in their hearts and give their all to support the team in every aspect they are involved.

“I totally relate to that and if that’s the reason we’ve bonded so well, then I’m happy and it means I’m doing my job. I’m so glad I’m a City player, especially with the direction the club is headed in.

“These are exciting times for everyone. Our fans have waited more than 30 years for success and I want to be part of the team that ends their long wait. I want to give something back for the way they’ve supported me, and I think we have a great chance to do that this season.”

Why does de Jong come out with this kind of shite before every game? Why not just stand in the middle of the changing rooms before they go out and tell the fuckin players who are pulling on the shirt?

Having a good season imho, clearly a quality player. One player I would have opn my teamsheet automatically (as 1 of 2 defensive midfielders) with bellamy and tevez. The rest are just not impressing that much. Sorry, add Kompany to an auto choice too, he is quality.

Yeah seen it on the OS. Some great qoutes from Nige, this one imparticular is great in my opinion:

“I noticed from the moment I arrived in Manchester how many Blues there were compared to Reds. This is a working-class city. The people are used to hard work and want to see players play in a way I think they would if they had the opportunity.

"I’m the type of player who wants to

Brilliant set of quotes from big Nige there.
