Adam Johnson NOT in England U21 Squad

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Adam Johnson NOT in England U21 Squad

Postby ant london » Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:09 am

but Micah and Joe Hart both in it.

Shame for Micah but he could still, with a very very slim chance and maybe an injury to a rival squeeze onto the plane. I doubt it though. I think Capello will start to pick him if he continues his form but I think his return to his previous standard of performances as unfortunately come about 6-9 months too late.

But intriguingly, the others who Capello mentioned in his recent interview re the stars of the U21s who might be on the fringes.....Hart looks defo in the seniors, Walcott and Johnson I fancy will be picked too. Rodwell is missing from the U21 squad though, but Wilshire is there.

I think Barry and Lescott are definitely on the plane to Jo'burg. SWP isn't going, nor does it look like Richards or Nedum have much of a chance. Hart and Johnson look to be the decent bets to make up a quartet of Blues wearing the three lions

SWP might go if Lennon cant get fit.

Plenty of time for Richards yet, no rush.

Hart will go, Lescott, Barry, Bridge will all go.

If not in the under 21's squad then more likely to be on that plane to South Africa. Might be at the dissaopintment of Sweep. Shame for sweep but will just show that we have bought a class winger who can switch sides so easily in a game.
I haven't a fecking clue what I'm doing! Gillie come back man I want my sig back. As the Photobucket thingy gone?

I'm sure Joe Hart is now to old for the U21. Think he is now 22 and didn't play in the last game.

isn't Micah 25 by now...FFS he's been playing U-21s forever.

Hope Hart has a decent game vs. Egypt and can win over Capello. He should be his first choice keeper tbh. I can't think of a better English goalie right now...he is the in-form English keeper of the moment. Hopefully he can keep that up until May and earn a spot in SA.

cheers

I'm not sure, but I thought there was an exemption for goalkeepers to 23, or something.

Hart is slated to start for the seniors against Egypt. Deservedly so, imho.

You lot are rumoured to be interested in gayzumping Bongo FC to loan him aren't you

Actually...are you now Bongo FC? Ah no...I see you are now Wrist Ham.....hahaha

Manchester United are known as the MU Rowdies (after the NASL's Tampa Bay Rowdies) and play at the Trafford Devilbowl, since their acquisition by the American Glazer family.

Birmingham City are referred to as Bongo FC in reference to their chairman's involvement in the pornography industry (bongo is slang for porn).

Blackburn Rovers are known as Blackeye Rovers in reference to the team's somewhat aggressive tactics.

Leeds United are referred to as Dirty Leeds, because of their historically uncompromising football style (more recently Nasty Leeds, following the manager Dennis Wise's statement that he wanted the team to be "nasty" in order to avoid relegation).

Wigan Athletic are known as Plucky Little Wigan or PLW, in reference to the media's patronising attitude to this overachieving club. This echoes the similarly patronising epithet "plucky little Belgium," used by British newspapers in 1914 to describe their resistance to the German invasion.

Liverpool are known as Gissagong FC ("Give us a gong", in a Scouse accent), as a result of their chief executive's disappointment upon discovering his Champions League-winning players had been overlooked in the 2006 New Year's honours list. An alternative name is "Merseyside Redskins", since their acquisition by US owners.

Sunderland are known as SundIreland since the club's takeover by former Republic of Ireland international Niall Quinn and his appointment of fellow Irishman Roy Keane as manager.

Manchester City are known as Human Rights FC since being taken over by former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, usually known as Trashcan Sinatra in The Fiver. With the 2008 takeover by the Abu Dhabi Investment Group they are now referred to as Human Rights FC 2.0.

Newcastle United were known for a while as Newcastle United Comedy Club, NUCC, or Jongleurs FC after a chain of British comedy clubs, following a series of bizarre incidents like manager Graeme Souness' public falling out with striker Craig Bellamy, and an on-field punch-up between teammates Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer. More recently the club has been referred to as the Barcodes (or Satan's Barcodes) due to their black and white striped shirts, and since the appointment of Joe Kinnear as Newcastle Eff Cee after Kinnear's regular use of profanities.

West Ham have become known as Bad Boys Inc since adding the controversial Bellamy and Dyer to a squad that already includes notorious troublemakers such as Bowyer and Anton Ferdinand. After Gold and Sullivan bought the club they were known as Wrist Ham, a reference to the owners involvement in the pornographic industry.

Aston Villa have been referred to as Buffalo Vills since the club's acquisition by Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner.
Derby County are nicknamed Ramsbottom County mainly because of their poor performance, especially in the 2007–08 Premier League season. The team's official nickname is the Rams.

Scunthorpe United are known as Firewall FC because of the difficulty in getting emails containing the name of the club through some forms of spam-blocking software (see Scunthorpe Problem)

QPR are known as RMP or Rich Men's Plaything after their takeover by billionaire owners Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone
Stoke City are known as Rory Delap F.C., for the number of goals they score from their Republic of Ireland international midfielder's long throw-ins.

The Glasgow teams Celtic (with a traditionally Catholic fan-base) and Rangers (with traditionally Protestant fan-base) are referred to as "The Queen’s Celtic" and "The Pope’s O'Rangers", when in fact the opposite would be appropriate.

Am I the only person who thinks Johnson's contribution since arriving has been massively overstated? I'm not trying to be controversial here before someone inevitably calls me a wanker, I just wonder if anyone else thinks we're getting too excited. I think he's very one-footed, he isn't as fast as I was expecting and I haven't yet seen him deliver a killer final ball. He does have quick feet, a quick mind and a good engine but I'd be amazed if he got anywhere near the World Cup squad (and downright dismayed if he was to be picked and Shauny not picked).

Hopefully. I know he's one of the only Midfielders who wants to get forwards and take Players on - but I've been very impressed with everything I've seen him do.

Actually, he has been more impressing at this stage than I expected.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

You may be wrong on this one ADVT. Remember the guy has just immediately stepped up a long way and come into some of our most difficult games of the season. He's even impressed 'pundits' which for a City player is some achievement! You will soon see end results, which is why I am more confident of 23/24 points to come than some at 17/18.

I hope I am wrong and that someone digs up this thread in May and forces me to eat my words. That could only mean he's been in blinding form. I'm just not sure he should be an automatic starter just yet, especially if he's not gonna be told to hug the left touchline. In truth I'm a bit baffled by Mancini's selection policy and Boyata being further up the food chain than Nedum is another example. As for the young Ryan Giggs comparisons, hmmmmmmm.
