I thought he'd broken his leg when it flexed upon impact, but only a bruised shin apparently

Love him!

I love Nige for what he is, and love a good strong tackle as much as the next man, but that was stupid and unnceccessary in that position on the field, and in a friendly too.

On a side note. can anyone comment on whether he passes it forward when he plays for Holland?

Awful tackle, if that was a Stoke player we'd be up in arms about it saying what a dirty cunt he is

Stupid tackle no doubt. In a inverse kind of way it could benefit Weiss though; Holden's been impressive since he started at Notlob.

Yeah that was not a good tackle. I'd like to say that Nigel is "not that kind of player" and he's not dirty in the Thatcher, Mills, Tiatto way but fuck me he goes in hard. That was bound to happen sooner or later really.

Bizarre set of City links to that one challenge as Esky said

Weiss in papers moaning about lack of action at Bolton....he might get his chance

Dangerous tackle leading with his studs up and just as bad as the Shawcross tackle. It shouldn't be congratulated, lets say Holland were playing Argentina - what would you say if he'd taken out Tevez for a few months with that tackle?

de Jong goes into challanges with the studs first all the time. It's really something he should try to rid his game of.

I'm not a fan of De Jong anyway (that's probably obvious)
Too many fans applaud him because he "get's stuck in" etc. But he doesn't stick to his position and protect the back four which means mancini has to play Barry in the same team. He runs around the pitch making silly tackles instead of being disciplined and staying in front of the back four.
Then idiots come on here calling him "pitbull"
I must remember to get a new signature.....

I think that was a terrible tackle by NDJ,but he seems to do it all the time.He seems far dirtier than Zabba to me who seems to get punished far more for much less.
I really dont like tackles like that which leave other players injured. Its a game of football FFS.
How can people think thats good?

Unfortunate tackle, but not malicious.

De Jong is a huge part of the fact that City are the most successful tacklers in European football this season.

Have a look at his tackling stats. They are not as good as Gareths who manages to do better less violently

Yeah I noticed that - I think Barry has the most successful tackle rate at the club, but they're both very important in that regard and I did say he's "a huge part" not the main part!

Nigel De Jong isn't in the habit of breaking legs, but he puts an element of fear into the midfield so that certain players (like Gerrard, Lampard and Fabregas) might not be able to express themselves quite as much, which Gareth Barry doesn't really do.

Tbh if you've got someone like DeJong steaming full tilt into a tackle & at the last sec you plant your leg firmly on the ground right in the vicinity of the point he's going to hit you're either A) Superman B) Stupid or C) Blind or D) Someone who enjoys pain (Stuart Pearce?).
