Boring Italian style, but it works.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Boring Italian style, but it works.

Postby Piccsnumberoneblue » Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:02 am

Just looking at Hellas Verona's away record this season. Quite remarkably they haven't conceded a goal on their travels so far, but they aint scored many either. Their nine goals scored away give them a record of won 5, drawn 8.
They are top however.

Hellas Verona 26 11 13 2 32 13 overall
13 6 5 2 23 13 home
13 5 8 0 9 0 away
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

serie b?

that's a pretty clever away record right there - if we could put a record like that alongside our home form we'd be champions.

have you seen them (Verona) play piccs?

I read Tim Parks "A Season with Verona" which is about an English guy living in Italy who follows Hellas Verona (and it's crazy fans) for a season all over the country. I have a Hellas Verona shirt as a result. A good holiday read IMHO especially for fans who have followed teams though thick and thin and thinner....

I've read the book as well. Well written but not very interesting subject.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Hellas Verona? It's a sort of Leeds Utd of Italian football, now damned to play in Italian Prima Serie, just like English Second Division.
Why damned? May be because they deserved to win a spectacular title on far 1985, or may be because their fans look like Milwall in England, too much racist with players or other Italian or abroad fans.
A certain Tim Parks, a rag for sure, supports them. He wrote a book about this, the same as Colin Shindler for us, really not amazing for every football true supporter!

Chievo is short for Chievo Verona. The president of Hellas said that the day that Chievo make the Serie A donkeys will fly. The first Verona derby in Serie A had the yellow section of the crowd waving donkeys with wings. Chievo stayed up that season inspired by goals from a certain Bernardo Corradi, Hellas went down.

Correct, Dazby, and I remember that was the best season of Bernardo's not so good career as striker!
Now Chievo is a good middle table club of serie A with less than 15.000 fans at all.

Remarkably odd. They're playing in the third tier of Italian football, and what about the teams they're playing against? Are they not playing Italian style football too?
