Next Three Matches...

While every match is important, I believe the next three matches are really going to be the most critical we've had yet this year. Stiff opposition in Fulham, and Everton...and then a Wigan side battling for safety. Our match in hand will also be played so we can eliminate that bullshit element of daydreaming about scenarios for those 3 pts and how they may play out.

it's a bit dramatic to say that we can't land fourth without 3 wins, but i really do believe every match has to be approached like it's do or die. Why can't City show the passion that other sides show when we lose or draw to lesser sides? Chelsea win buoyed us, then Sunderland humbled us.

Which City will show up the next 3 matches will dictate our season...by the time those 3 matches have been played we'll either have a sense that we're still in it, or we'll have faltered to the point of collapse and Europa League pining.

What do you think?

I think you're full of shit. Every match is a cup final from now on.

Doesn't matter which matches the points come from, as long as we get them.

at a certain point you run out of runway if you get more than 6 pts off the pace, in a 3 or 4-way challenge with so few games left.

We've had so many chances to stake our claim this season...we've got to take ours at some point...the next 3 matches will tell the tale of whether we've got a shot or we're just pretenders. i hope we show some mettle.

cheers

I'm confident of winning the Wigan game but i do feel we are gonna strugle against Fulham and Everton, to only get 2 points or none from those games would really have us up against it for 4th. I really do think we need to win the Fulham, Everton, Villa and Spurs games to be confident of getting 4th.

Yeah I think they've got draw written all over em and well fall off before pool and spurs do. For me the next 3 games aren't key, it's winning the tough home games as were gash away. If spurs and villa take a ot from our place were as good as tucked IMO.

I seriously try to take it just game at a time.. And I'm already nervous as fuck about the Fulham match!

Saying that, our season is not gonna be over until the last few rounds no matter what happens in these 3 games. There's going to be so many twists and turns yet..

I don't really go for all the speculation stuff but sometimes it's hard to ignore. Of course all games are vital and with City tending to do well in the tough games and not so well in the rest it's crazy to predict but it does look like we have to put ourselves top of the 4th chasing pile in the next 5 games , never mind 3 .The next 5 are arguably easier than the final 5 so we need to get to 4th spot with a bit to spare so that we don't get caught if we do happen to lose against the scum or Arsenal.

It feels like we are just onto the last lap and we need to make a break for the finish

After Fulham's victory over Juventus last night they are going to be on a high and are a very well organised side, think we will have to be on top right from the off to get the better of them on Sunday we'll just have to wait and see what happens think I will go fishing and forget about it.

Any volunteers to start the "next 4 matches" thread or even "the next 2 matches" thread

Personally, I believe there isn't one game left where we can afford to not perform at 100%, and I will be seriously fucked off if we give anything less than our best, and even more pissed off if we let them stroll to a first half lead.

COME ON CITY!!!

Defoe is out for several weeks with a hamstring tear - that could affect Spurs chances unless Pavy can put the rest of the team on his back

i think that our NEED to have a sense of security by being top of the 4th race pile, does not reflect the reality of the run-in.

my take is that there will be surprises and despair yet to come, and the next games will test our nerves and sanity.

What i will say though is in order to win the golden egg race we basically have to maintain a steady improvement. Bobby has got the team fairly solid, he knows what is missing and he knows what he has got in terms of personnel. We know that we can beat anyone home or away ( apart from Stoke ) .
imo the Everton game is going to be the toughest game, simply because we have ghosts to put to rest and Everton will sense they can take away our home record. I think the Stoke games gave us the know how to cut the Toffees down to size and i am confident for the game.
Fulham couldn't come at a better time.. heads in the clouds.. they will be 2-0 down before waking up.

The other games that present any voodoo are limited. I think we will trash Arsenal at the Emirates, unlike a lot of peeps that think we will get beat.
Spurs at Comms, perhaps is the other game that is key, it now looks like it will be billed as the battle for 4th.. but if anything we seem to be good at handling the big games, so if the game is hyped i think it plays into our hands as much as anything.
Consistency is the key.. not yo-yoing about

we have Rags then Arsenal, Spurs and Villa. If we have improved just slightly by the time those games hit us and we haven't yo-yoed about then we can be confident of staying solid and will be reasonably well practiced by that time.
We can beat the rags and we can definately stop Arsenal, so if we can keep our feet on the ground for the 3rd and 2nd games from the last, we can take 4th at that point and the WH game will be without pressure.

thats how i see it anyhow.

Looking forward to Fulham though.. it is the match where we have to show we can start a game actually awake.. it is the key thing.. Fulham on the other hand will have lost touch with what that means after their greatest win ever, so it is set up nicely if you get my drift

i guess my point of this thread is that we have the easier section of the schedule in front of us, and that's absolutely not easy. The next 4 matches (incl Burnley) should provide for a nice run of points. We've only taken 9 from the last 6 matches i think, so we need to make sure we can get 6 from the next 3 and 9 from 4 i think to really get a leg up on 4th and struggle through what will be some really really tough matches against the Scum, [strike]Chelsea[/strike] Arsenal, Villa and Spurs.

If we can't get some confidence from the next 3 i doubt we have the stones to take 4th. ill stand by that assessment and hope we tonk Fulham as a starting point.

cheers

Every match is important.

You get 3 points from 'em all. You can name things like form, rivals etc - but it's bullshit. You get enough points and you finish where you fucking well finish.

The top teams don't become top teams because they win "six pointers" or win "can't lose" games. They are top because they constantly win matches. Similarly those teams at the bottom of their respective leagues. They didn't lose against "fellow strugglers" they lost. And that, that result, is all that matters. Fuck the opposition. We are City. The next game is just as important as the last.

I'm sorry for having a go, but this shit gets to me.
