The agent of Catania striker Jorge Martinez claims to have held talks with Manchester City over a proposed move to the Premier League.
The Uruguay international has scored 22 goals in 81 games for the Serie A outfit, prompting reported interest from other clubs in Italy's top flight.
However, the 26-year-old's agent Daniel Delgado insists ambitious Premier League side City are in pole position to secure his signature having already opened negotiations.
"Many Italian teams have showed an interest in Jorge but the only negotiation that is still alive is with Manchester City," said Delgado.
"Jorge is going through a very good moment, he is playing well and being very useful to his team.
"His performances have made other teams interested but the only team that we keep on having conversations with is Manchester City."
Martinez featured as an 83rd-minute substitute in England's 2-1 friendly win over Uruguay in March 2006 and has nine goals in 20 games in Italy's top flight this term.

1 in 4 is 88 games so it's slightly better but still not good enough in my opinion.

Very true Mancio4ever. With our privacy policy regarding signings, does anyone actually think we'd let his agent spout this sort of stuff off?

I smell an 'Agent sounds out his player to prospective buyers that he is after a move to England in the summer' type of bullshit.

Agent bollox!
I'll happily play for free, I'll even sort the transfer fee with my present, 6th division, club myself. I am also on the club board and part of the coaching staff so I'm sure it can be arranged.

I watched Martinez three or four times recently and, mates, what a sensational player he is! He looks curiously like our AJ, same way fo treat the ball, but I think he'll began a fantastic top scorer if Mancio will adapt immediately to Premier League atmosphere! Not so expansive like many others in Europe, Italian newspapers told recently he'd be happy to go in England!
