You can generally make and receive calls unless there is (a) a goal when people call their mates or (b) half time when a lot of people use the phone too. If you keep trying, you do eventually get a line which would suggest it's just a case of an overloaded network.

The internet too comes and goes which again is a bandwidth issue.

I'm on O2 and struggle, but my son used to be on Voda and he never struggled. I presume O2 therefore have a lesser capacity.

This is the issue. After the games is worst while we all ring and text at the sme time from within the same 'cell'. In the states they beef-up the technical stuff around stadiums to take care of this so as mentioned above a signal 'boost' is required.
lets wish for good days but not forget the bad days

It's an odd one for me. I'm on Orange and when I had a 2G phone I could send and receive texts and go online without a problem.
With a 3.5G phone it struggles often. I can send messages but it takes a long time to receive them. Can never get on the internet either.

Gillie told me he never had any problems getting messages out to Royton with his specialised team of trained carrier pigeons. It worked every time and was a vast improvement on his old gramaphone.
...and Paddy sends his texts by french Letters.

I knew having no friends would be a good thing!

If only we all knew somebody with a high powered job with a big mobile phone company, maybe he could pull a few strings.
