I think most people will remember that Ron Atkinson was sacked for making racist comments, but no doubt Taggart's "Typical Germans" jibe will be swept under the carpet to join the multitude of other Ferguson offences against decency lying there. His comments are a slur (very apt) on English football, making us look xenophobic and small-minded, the very thing that Kick It Out is supposed to tackle. Then along comes this bitter old man, on one of the most high profile nights in the world club game, and he shatters the illusion in two seconds. In the post-match interview, it was apparent that Ferguson had lost it, and it was a pure fluke that he didn't go even further down that obnoxious line and start swearing on live TV and insulting the interviewer.

For the sake of the game, it is excellent that Man United and their creepy old manager have been turfed out. When there is so much to love about the beautiful game, we really do not need this drunkard, racist and conman in football, nor a club that stinks it up with its vast debt and various levels of corruption.
