Favourite Ex-Prem Player

Postby HeyMark » Fri Apr 09, 2010 7:15 pm

I've been watching Premier League years this week and it brought back some good memories of players from when I was younger. I always loved Overmars, Bergkamp and Berger when they were in their prime!

So who are your favourite ex premier league players?

Non-City? I'd say Paulo Di Canio for a combination of his incredible skill and decking a Referee, Claude Makelele and Zola.

Watching him and Duff run down the flanks for Chelsea under Mourinho was great fun. Football played with two Wingers has always been my favorite - although a Kick Ass playmaker in the middle of the field is always good. Ali B type.

Di Canio! I'm drunk and throwing all caution to the wind (regarding potential of being banned).

Non-City ... would probably have to be Henry or Shearer.
Henry just cos he was pure class during his best days at Arse.
And Shearer because he was a good old-fashioned centre forward. none of this fake shite we get these days. Just compare him to the pussies of nowadays like van persie who cry every time when they get a pimple in their nose?

add Zola and David Ginola to that and I agree.

Can't believe Di Canio is getting so many mentions. Fascist little fuck. And hugely overrated mainly because of THAT goal.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He did deck a Referee, though.

Thing is, he didn't even deck the ref, just touched him and AlCOCK took a dive himself.

Anyone who thinks this knob cheese is their idol, needs their head checking though.

He pushed the Referee whilst using both hands. The Referee isn't as physically strong as a Professional Footballer and lost his footing. It was Oscar nominated, though.

He's not my "idol" in any way, shape or form. We're talking about nothing but Football ability. How do we know Dennis Bergkamp didn't used to put fireworks through the letterboxes of Pensioners in Highbury?

Dennis Bergkamp was (ALLEGEDLY of course) one of the main instigators in "race wars"in Holland dressing room during 90's and early 00's. So no, despite all the brilliant football talent he posessed, I find it hard to look up to person like that either.

Henry has to be the best attacking player I've seen in the PL. Shearer the best out & out striker. The best midfielder was a toss up between Vieira & a name I can't bring myself to mention & the best goalkeeper belonged to the same team as him.

I was trying to think of the best defender & I think I'd have to go for Sol Campbell at his peak.
