The truth is, if either us or Spurs get 4th, we're both probably going to spend. Spurs have very rich backers and will be prepared to spend big in order to get them to the top. The difference is, they've been trying to do this for many more years than us.

A conspiracy theory of that order is bollocks if for no other reason than Chelsea want to win the league. What isn't quite beyond the bounds of possibility is that Stevie Ireland has been tapped up to move across town to the rags and therefore didn't get in Scholes's way because he wanted Champions league for sure next season. It would fit in with some of his well known previous weird decisions. I love Stevie Ireland so I hope this suggestion from the family back home has nowt to it, but I predict that if he does go to one of the other top teams he'll rediscover the form of last season.
