Torres out for the season

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Sun Apr 18, 2010 9:16 pm

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has been ruled out for the rest of the season as he requires knee surgery.

Torres missed Liverpool's draw with Fulham last weekend as a result of the problem and he will now be forced under the knife to correct the injury.

The Spanish international underwent knee surgery in January and he spent six weeks on the sidelines.

Liverpool have now confirmed that Torres will undergo surgery on a knee injury later on Sunday in Spain.

A club spokesman said: "Fernando saw a specialist in Spain earlier today and it was decided that he would need surgery on a torn cartilage in his right knee.

"This will be carried out later tonight. We cannot comment ahead of the operation, but as a guide, the usual rehabilitation period for this type of procedure is around six weeks."

Despite enduring an injury-hit campaign, Torres has weighed in with 18 goals in 24 league outings for the Merseyside club this season.

The news is a massive blow for Liverpool's chances of claiming a a top-four finish and also winning the Europa League with the first-leg of their semi-final clash against Torres' former club Atletico Madrid taking place on Thursday.

May help Chelsea win the league so thats good, but as far as we are concerned, given Liverpool are 6 points back on us and we dont have to play them nor do Spurs, it has absolutely zero impact on us or how or where we finish.

But it does impact us in a way as Scouse play West Ham tomorrow if the hammers win they are imo virtually safe and could make our game against them easier. And Scouse next game is Burnley away and if Burnley still believe they can stay up with a win Scouse could be in for a torrid time at Turf Moor.Which means Spuds game is not a foregone at Burnley so in a way it does help us if you know what i am getting at.

The next time we win something after 30 odd years is the time we earn the right to laugh at The Europa League.

Maybe your right but it's not really important to them they just go on like it is now they are out of the champions league. You know deep down they really don't give a shit. It's like the Carling Cup or something to them in reality.. That's why I am laughing mate how much the scousers are banging on about how all of a sudden it's important I mean when we were in the UEFA cup and banging on about it they were laughing at us saying its a 2bit cup. But now it's so important because they are in it?
