World Cup Fever-Panini Italia 90 (bandwidth warning picfest)

the full album completed and scanned.

Quality!!

I tell you what....we didn't half have a good squad/team. Fucking Paul Parker and dead legs Shilton being the (dis)honourable exceptions.

How did Holland not do better with that team?? And spot the player in their team whose name EVERYONE knows but no-one probably imagined would be quite this famous? (assuming he is the right one that is!!)

I love the fact that the "tinpot" countries got 2 players per sticker! haha

Other observations....three home nations at the World Cup, this really did mark the end of the British dominated upper divisions in England. I miss the fact that you would discover random unheard of (and often brilliant) new players at the WC in the pre-ubiquitous media age, those exotic names who would then pop up in playground matches;.. Higuita, Roger Milla, Zubizareta, Scifo....ahh class

Lastly...I miss the old Eastern Bloc....the dodgy 'tasches, the serious, surly players and the bizarre fear of those mysterious communists....ahhhh nostalgia!!

Enjoyed that, thanks!

However, I assume you've got Dutch Johnny Bosman confused with Belgian Jean-Marc Bosman in the above statement.

I still hate that Swedish team. 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, the last defeat being against fucking Costa Rica.

I never got the Panini album for Italy '90, but still have the one from Mexico in '86. I still take it out every now and then and flip through it. Great nostalgia!

What about Andre Escobar from Colombia. Murdered after the 94 World Cup for scoring an og. Imagine if we'd have done that with Dunne!!

I had frogotten just how many of that Irish squad were not born in Ireland. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the granny rule though it was great to have our team there and it would be great to be going to South Africa. God knows the country could do with a lift right now

Ha ha ha, thought exactly the same looking at the back 4 of Argentina! I could imagine very single one of them being a member of the death squads that rounded up vagrants off the streets....brrrrrr

that Russian hard-man/mullet/stached/Stasi team looks creepy. odds-on there is a bonafide killer in those ranks if you looked at them all now, state-sponsored of course.

Who wouldn't have wanted to party with the Colombian team circa 1990? Amazing looking crew. Like a poorly conceived heavy-metal video shoot waiting to happen everywhere they traveled i bet.

good stuff.

Don't know about a picfest, what about a Mullet-fest. There's some stormers there. Have you seen how young Ancelotti looks.
