Adam Johnson's (lack of) Stamina

I mentioned this in the match thread but I really think that he needs to work on his fitness.

Don't get me wrong, he is a real talent and could go on to become a great player but he needs to be able to put in a full shift. It seems to me that he's full of life and energy in the first 20-30 minutes but then he fades out and becomes a bit of a passenger.

Never mind South Africa in the Summer Adam, get yourself a personal trainer and build up your stamina, or just ask Bellamy what he does and copy him.

Agree 100%. We could and probably should have had SWP or Ireland on 2nd half. Johnson was a dead man walking and seemed low on confidence to boot. IMO it probably cost us the extra 2 points today.

Fair deuce to him for helping out in defense all day though.

If we had subbed Johnson b efore Givens injury we would have been in real trouble and couldn't sub him after, knackered or not. Would agree his fitness lets him down. Not sure ab out personal trainers, look at whats happened to Ireland

I agree with Ted. I thought we faded in the last 10 mins or so and were on the back foot.

sorry but i have to say this thread is a bit out of order, while KK has a point.. it is opening the door to throw some not very justified criticism of the lad. he's only been here 3 weeks or so and hes got a long way to go yet and plenty to learn in all aspects of his game.

cost us 2 pts.. is bang out of order and i am ashamed as city fan to have even read that

if Mancini felt he was not of any use on the pitch he will have seen that and replaced him

I think there is an element believing what is said in the media about any player that has a couple of decent games being close to the England squad, and therefore by default should be expected to be playing like Zico every week.

Every player, even the very, very best, have got areas of their game they need to work on.

The last two games he has come up against two of the three best left-backs in the league. He hasn't done that well. Fair enough. He needs to do better against them next time. But remember, he won't play an evra or a Clichy every week.

And I must say I don't recall much criticism of his stamina when he scored in injury time at Sunderland.

I do remember the hazy, distant days when City fans a) were knowledgeable, b) showed patience, and c) gave some credit when the opposition do well or have class players.

at times hes looked brilliant against lower tier teams but thats two weeks in a row he hasn't delivered, when he needed to perform against 'the big boys'
That performance probably made the watching Capello's mind up
(at least, I presume he had already made his mind up about Micah Richards!)

He went past Evra last week, right in front of me, made the space for a cross &...turned inside onto his left foot & the chance was gone. One of the problems of being on the wrong side of the pitch against one of the best fullbacks in the Prem I suppose.

It's true he hasn't performed against the better sides since he's been with us, but as he's only been here for 3 months and has massively exceeded my expecations overall so far I can let that slide.

We're by far the best side he has ever played in in his short career and he is doing a great job. The lad clearly has bags of talent and it's up to us to get the best out of him and improve those areas which need development.

We've seen him run defences ragged against the mid-table and lower teams, and so now the club has to help him develop so he can turn in the same type of performances against players like Evra, Cole and Clichy.

Didnt he miss alot of training last week because he had a knock?

That goes someway to explain it.

The tracking back was needed, it would limit any players attacking effect. We got a point, it was a shit game, move onto the next because its still in our hands.

Frustrating, I agree, as I believe he can cross with his right foot - should he choose to.

He'll be a very good player, I think, but he needs to take an attacking risk or two at times.
