City ready to make £22 million bid

Roberto Mancini is hoping to lure Aston Villa winger Ashley Young to Eastlands and is willing to make a big money bid to bring the England international to Eastlands. Martin O’Neill is going to have a fight on to keep his big stars from having their head turned by moves elsewhere.

Manchester City will hope that clinching a top four finish will give them the edge in potential moves for big names as Mancini looks to change things up at the club and will be given a big cash injection from the club’s money men as they look to become genuine title chasers.

With a crop of top notch strikers at the club the Italian boss appears to be looking for more creative outlets on the wings and in his midfield to help provide the ammunition for the likes of Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with moves for Gabriel Agbonlahor and James Milner and O’Neill will hope that he can convince the trio of England international to stay at the club as they look to finally make the step up from a top six side to clinching a coveted Champions League spot.

as much as i love swp, young is a better player imo. then again swp showed just how good he can be when he set up the bellamy goal the other day.

tbh imo if swp gets more games then i think his confidence will become stronger.everyyone knows what he is capable of .I think he should start on wednesday night tbh as he is blue through and through and it would mean soo much to him more then say johnson imo.

Thing is johnson was MOTM at the weekend, will tire and its bellamys sort of game. Spurs were after Bellamy after all.

If I was to drop one of them it would be bellamy! Swp's mazy run was on the left dont forget.

I agree about Bellamy. His form has dipped a bit recently and I'm sure his knees won't mind a rest.
If SWP does start, he will really have to deliver though as it could be his last chance to impress Mancini

Young was poor on Saturday, come on, anyone could see it. But, big but, he went past Bridge 3 times in the last 15 minutes like he wasn't there. Bridge had played superbly up to that point. But trhere was no end product for Young. Not seen a faster player though. Bellamy was pretty poor, imho, and has been for about 2 months. Young and Johnson as options is very tempting. Givent hat Bellers may have seen his arse (sadly), I think he is gone. Annoying as he was amazing until about March.

Wouldn't mind young at the club.

Bellamy will play and should tomorrow if fit. He has been one of our best and most consistent performers all season. He didn't have a poor game on Saturday as has been discussed and confirmed on another thread. His workrate was excellent as ever , he was always a threat , involved in planty of good stuff and scored a good goal.I'll take that tomorrow and with Lennon likely to play we will need his work on the left side.

Finally SWP does something on the left after the hammering he has taken for not being able to play there and suddenly he should play. Amazing. I love SWP but absolutely no way should he get the nod before Bellers.

If we sign Young and this story just won't die, then he is the long term replacement for Bellamy, not to shuffle SWP out or jump ahead of Johnson.

It's all about opinions s1ty fella but I disagree with most of that. Maybe we watched a different match?

Bridge was bad defensively, and Young had the measure of him nearly every time. Young looked very dangerous and I think you have to give Bobby a bit of credit for setting up the CBs to prevent an 'end product'. However this is lazy hack stuff with the transfer link, but I guess it did work with AJ, who also ran rings round us in a match at Boro.

Bellamy is still one of our best players and although he couldn't get round Cuéllar much this match, he did score a superb goal (didn't he?) and his tracking back is superb. Without him tomorrow against Lennon, forget it!

Can't believe some people are still saying "if we sign so-and-so who gets dropped?". It's not about that chaps. It's about having 4 decent flank players - sometimes SWP can get past someone, sometimes Bellamy is better. Sometimes AJ is brilliant, sometimes he needs changing. Some games the defensive side is more important. And Petrov is out of contract.

SQUAD game!!

Agreed I been thinking for a while now Bellers won't be here at the start of next season mainly because of his knee and the fact he is a journeyman who doesn't stay at teams for long anyways. AJ and SWP isn't enough we need somebody else and Petrov just isn't good enough.

I know a few villa fans that would snap our hands off for that, they reckon he always goes missing. Im not a massive fan myself and certainly not for that price, 10-12m max in my book.

Agreed mate, my Villa fan mate reckons he only plays against the crap teams but goes missing against the big teams.

Having said that, he put in some great crosses late in the match on the weekend.

Considering they paid £9M for him, I can't see them accepting anything less than £15M for him.
