SWP

I was thinking about Shaun yesterday, and discussing it with a few mates. I'm not the biggest fan of playing wingers on the opposite side to what they would like to play, but I think this favoured Shaun on saturday. We all know Shaun is not too great with his crosses etc, and I have a feeling that had he got the ball like that on the right wing, we may have seen a different outcome, but as he had no option but to play the simple pass because he can't cross with his left it created a goal which he desperately needed for his own confidence. This could resurrect his season, right at the end IMO.

I think that defenders have seen enough of SWP to have him sussed when he goes down the right wing and he goes into them, and if not they push him down to the line knowing he cannot whip in a cross everytime. Playing him down the left, left them clueless as to where he would go. Down that side he has to cut back in at some point and they don't know when. Great tactic and it showed on Satdi.

He kept his composure better than usual that's for sure. He tried harder to beat the defenders & stay on his feet imo, rather than being happy to get caught & accept a free kick like he has too often this season. SWP can't play at 99% he needs that extra half yard of effort to get past players & be effective. If he treats each minute he's on the pitch in the same way, then he could be a matchwinner or at least seal the game for us v Spurs & West Ham, as he did Villa.

I'm sure he'll be going balls out because there's a World Cup, as well as the chump's lg, at stake.

Probably wasn't too sure himself.

Watched the replay again and he actually ACCIDENTLY let the ball travel too far away from his foot which prompted Cuellar (spelling?) to stick his leg out and somehow SWP managed to get another touch in to put it past Cuellar.

:)

That's what I love about Shaun: how many times does it look like there's no way through, and he finds that extra burst of pace, and nips in front to not only win/keep the ball, but emerge at pace with it miraculously still at his feet. His centre of gravity's about a foot and a half from the ground too, which helps. When he's on form he can destroy anyone in the world, I love watching him. LIttle big man better be on form tomorrow if he plays. God I hate Spurs.

Sweep deliberatly plays with the ball in front of him, he plays the ball into space and chases after it, that way he can't be tackled as he hasn't got the ball, so his marker has 2 options, watch him run past or stick out a leg and give away a free kick

He's most definitely a useful option to come off the bench because he can run at tired defenders - but the likes of A. Johnson are more useful because they can use both feet. Shaun's reached his peak in Football now and, although he's a key Squad player, he's not a First XI man anymore.

SWP had his big chance at Chelsea and it didn't work for him. Is he really as good as we like to think he is?

He isn't unfortunately. He was great with us previously, albeit in a weaker City side, but he hasn't hit those same levels in his second spell with us.

His performances this season have been abysmal far too often and he should not be offered a new contract based on his current form. However, if he can knuckle down and put in appearances like he did last Saturday then he can still have a place in the squad.

When we re-signed SWP, I was so over the moon, and I still believe he can pull something out of the bag every time he gets the ball. But he has (sadly) been a major disappointment this season.

Everyone goes on about SWP and his crossing but i think he has great crossing technique but no center forward/ striker ever makes runs into the box or they just get into the box and stand still. How can you cross to mongs who dont even move in the box. Adebayor likes to drift out to the wing as though he is telling SWP to get in the box and he will do the work?

This has been my major problem with city in recent seasons there has been no movement and that is usally when we lose or draw. We only seem to turn it on when we play the big teams or the team feel like it.

Id like to see players pass and move for a change not pass and wait to see what the guy does with it.

We've moved on as a Club and he might not move on with us. The days of him being the Player Fans were paying to watch are long gone. He's most definitely got a place in the Squad and even the Matchday 16 as he's a useful option - but he won't be starting regularly until he proves himself.

Coming off the bench late, skins Bale and Ekotto, cuts inside and nutmegs Dawson with a heavy touch but scampers after it and clips it over Gomes with the faintest of chips, City win 3-1 and the crowd goes nuts breaking into a rendition of Istanbul, Istanbul we are coming by accident.
